So much time was pent on Schlafly, the other honorees went unnoted

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Considerable space was used to report the selection of Phyllis Schlafly for an honorary degree at Washington University.  However, the St Louis Post Dispatch essentially ignored the other recepients except to merely list their names.

These recepients had made notable contributions in their respective fields. Their selection is a great tribute to their fine careers. Yet you chose to ignore the reasons for their selection in favor of the controversy Phyllis Schlafly could create.

This is a major omission and poor journalism.

I disagree Mr. Lewis, the fact that you are responding shows that it was effective journalism. The fact that Wash U. choose to honor Ms. Schlafly was poor judgment which led to the situation of the other recepients being overshadowed by the controversy. In the journalism busines controversy sells.

Maybe the other honorees just weren’t all that interesting.

Then again, who the hell cares what Wash U does?

According to “Donnybrook” on channel 9 Thursday night, The honorees were not voted on individually, but as a whole slate. There was no picking and choosing.
