Amnesty for ticket scofflaws is a slap in the face to the rest of us

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

The city of St. Louis is in a pinch for money, but they decide to give amnesty to people who have not paid tickets, missed court dates, or have warrants for their arrests. This is a slap in the face to the rest of the residents who pay. Why not have them register for Jury Duty and upon completion, then forgive them?

It is no more than a slap in the face than being able to buy one’s self out of a moving violation ticket, which I am sure that YOU, Mr. Kozloowski have taken advantage of in some form or another. Maybe even buying your child (ren)out of the trouble and costs associated with a moving violation.

In fact, it appears that such a move by the city is bringing much needed money to the city’s budget that would not otherwise be there in such a short time span.

Registered for jury duty? This makes no sense. Every voter is part of the jury pool.

Every legally “registered” voter is part of the jury pool. Remember, vote early and vote often!

Why be stupidly dogmatic about arrests? It’s better for the city to collect what fines they can without the cost of sending the police after scofflaw ticket dodgers. The police have more serious things to do. Time enough later to chase down the ones who don’t come in during the amnesty period. Most of them aren’t violent criminals.
