It’s almost time to vote out the guys who raided our pockets thanks to increased assessments

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Now that candidates are starting to mail their campaign material, it’s time for us to note their “experience” to see if they helped gouge the property owners in the recent tax confiscation.

If they are former members of a council or board, etc., that was a recipient of property tax receipts, they’re probably guilty. Why take a chance - whatever the office being sought, vote “NO.”

And if you are one who made the St. Louis County home owners resolution, remember to vote against all such candidates, and against all tax proposals, until property owners get a refund of the recent excess property taxes.

A reversal of the last assessment would facilitate things.

We should also vote against all those (County Council) who had a hand in the appointment
of the current Assessor.

Let‘s start speaking up, for crying out loud!

Phil Vonder Haar

I agree, but there are too many liberals in the area that want more freebees.

Since the property values have gone down do you think that these politicians will demand a lowering of taxes? Funny, if anything they might wait another year before they raise them but liberals NEVER LOWER TAXES!

Phil, count me in. I have my appointment with the Assessment board in July.
I know it’s a waste of time though.

Interesting comments from the first two posters - I could have sworn there are SOME conservatives on the assorted school boards and in county and municipal governing councils…
Where do you guys live?

I do agree with Mr. Vonder Haar, however.

There is one political subdivision in the St. Louis Metro region that has significantly LOWERED taxes while improving services, the Mehlville FPD.

Their tax rate is 40% lower than the legal limit. If all local governments were managed in the interest of the taxpayers instead of the employees who reap ridiculously high salary and benefits, maybe we could keep more of our hard-earned money for our families.
