Legal or not, the casino “movie” billboard is a monstrosity

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

I was driving north on Sunday night on Interstate 70 where it passes the Arch.  There have been an increasing number of lighted distractions in this area.  Now the latest is a new wall installed with two gigantic plasma screens, placed where motion pictures are plainly visible by drivers on the Interstate highway.

Shortly after passing this wall, a motorcycle appeared out of nowhere and passed me going at least 30 miles per hour over the speed limit.  Even without the new casino distractions, this is not the safest stretch of highway.

Regardless of what may be legally permitted, common sense would tell you that you do not place movie screens on an Interstate highway.  Lumiere, tear down that wall!

Since when is good taste common to the gambling industry?
Since when is tackiness foreign to the gambling industry?
Since when is moderation common to the gambling industry?
I guess we should be grateful it did not install a gigantic neon cowboy…

Incidentally - this flooding will be a good excuse for Pinnacle to permanently close the President in favor of the Lumiere - loss of revenue/uncertainty of sales/prolonged flooding on a possibly annual basis/etc.
I wonder how long that will take?

Are you kidding…that wall is great. When out of town folks decide to visit a casino they are only comparing it to one place…Las Vegas. Lets be realistic about this. Its about time the casinos around here started acting like real casinos and not the back water smoke filled dives we have had to put up with until now. Now all we have to do is dump the loss limit and maybe just maybe St. Louis could have a real casino to visit.

Paul Doudna, Love the ending with the “tear down that wall” reference.

Brian V, Are you a shill for the gaming industry? One can hardly compare an interstate highway with the slow moving Las Vegas strip.

Ugh. I wish that all casinos would disappear. They do more harm than good for local communities. When they were building Lumiere, the first thought that popped in my head was “eyesore”. Now, with that virtual movie screen it really is a distraction.

I am surprised and yet not surprised at the same time that the city government allowed them to install those tacky traffic disturbers on the billboard and on top of the building.
