That’s life: There are angry, rude people on both sides

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

There is anger on the right. There is anger on the left. A case in point involves a scantily clad very boisterous young woman walking a very large dog outside the Renaissance Hotel in St. Louis Monday, cussing at a group of us who were peacefully holding John McCain signs and “Obama = Change We Can’t Afford”. We were protesting Barack Obama without yelling, without cussing, and without name-calling. She cussed at us and ordered us off of “her street” (we were actually on the sidewalk). The hotel’s kitchen staff were also yelling at us and calling us names along with her. The young woman said we are all “rich white people”. She was white. The woman next to me was black. And the people inside were rich folks who paid $500 to $2,300 to see Sen. Obama. She was misinformed and hypocritical. But she was a liberal.

I would not treat you that way. Rush Limbaugh would not even yell at you in your driveway in front of your kids. There are whackos on both sides. C’est la vie (that’s life), unfortunately.

Sounds like thoughtful and considerate liberals practicing inclusive compassion to me. Did you see Eric Mink and Kevin Horrigan there?

Its pretty obvious Jon is a racist, inbred, Bible and gun clinching redneck. Why else would anyone protest Obamessiah?

So we’ve got a person protesting that is protesting because another group was protesting that they were protesting? I’m shocked. Your protest might have been more effective if you weren’t in the alley, or are you saying the kitchen staff was loitering in the front of the hotel and not working? How is it you know what Rush’s reaction would be? Why the reference to “scantily clad”? What are trying to imply with that? I am skeptical of this whole letter.

Jon, thanks for going and protesting. It’s great to see respectful passion. If I had known, I would have been there with you. The last time I went to see President Bush in town, there were tons of obnoxious protestors telling us to go eat at White Castle. My husband laughed because he said he had already eaten lunch there.
The first time I saw president Bush the union thugs were protesting and causing all sorts of ruckus. I hope I can someday return the favor to Democrat contributors.

It’s fantastic that so many people on all sides are so passionate about politics today. Thank you for holding your peaceful protest, and thanks to those who responded to you with such passion. When the common people take a great interest in our elections, things can only get better.

And, thank you for holding your event downtown. Obama will obviously carry St. Louis city by a huge margin. Anything to increase interest & voter turnout downtown can only help lead him to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave!!

Liberals get very angry, when they see that you do not believe as they do, I have seen it on these blogs, they start foaming at the mouth and calling others names.

Note to Renaissence Hotel - I will never attend another GOP fundraiser at your hotel or at least not eat the food. I was always sure that your employees were spitting in my food, not I am positive they are. Dont’ get too excited Dems, I’ll send in my money, just not eat the food.

“and thanks to those who responded to you with such passion.”

What was described does not show passion but rudeness, no manners, lack of self control, and lack of civility. Appalling is a more accurate word than passion.

If that type of behavior constitues “passion” to liberals, then the differences between conservatives and liberals is greater than most people realize. Also between decent people and liberals too.

Carol, just last month you were troubled with the Washington U. students who wordlessly protested Phyllis Schaffley by silently turning their backs during commencement exercises because they objected to her anti-female rights crusade over the years.

Why is terrible for people with left-leaning beliefs to protest but its great for right wing neocons to do the same thing?

I need a score card to keep up with this nonsense…Who’s on first…What’s on second…I dunno…
