Let’s not start picking on the unborn to solve global warming

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Monday’s letter from Von Mueller may be the most offensive letter the Post-Dispatch has ever printed, and that is saying a lot. This socialist wants to control people by telling them how many children they should be allowed to have. Is this China? What does he propose to do with the excess children born? Does this man not realize that many religions believe that children are a blessing and not a curse? Does this man know that population control in this country was originally orchestrated by Margaret Sanger for Planned Parenthood to rid the country of certain unwanted people? Do we want to regress back to that as a society?

Truth be known, more children on this earth does not add to global warming. The majority of people live out in the country with a simple lifestyle or in the cities in smaller square footage of living area and use public transportation. I have a suggestion. Why not force all the wealthy “eco-fascist” movie stars and politicians to downsize their oversize lifestyles or pay severe penalties. Why do they get to own multiple homes with swimming pools and fly private jets around the country? Why isn’t Al Gore questioning their carbon footprints? I don’t see anyone asking them to limit their “excesses.” I don’t see these people showing any responsibility for preserving the Earth’s limited resources. Let’s start with the adults before we start picking on the unborn.

The democrats want to control every aspect of a persons life from birth to death. I should say, if they don’t abort a child, instead of birth, and until death taxes are paid, instead of death. If Obama is elected, it will get worse.

Well said. While we choose who is born and who is “aborted” (such a nicer word than “killed”), why don’t we figure how who is helpful to our society and who is dragging us.

We should come up with productivity rates and whoever falls below a certain percentage or number will be killed.

Who gets to decide who gets eliminated or who gets to decide how big your family should be if we are to embark on this course in the name of Global Warming?

What a great society we could have! NOT!

Ms. Size, no worries. There shall be no over-arching, draconian master-plan
for the control of population size.

There shall, however, come a tipping point where humans so overrun their
environments, the results will create conditions of famine/disease/social
dislocation and collapse, with a corresponding deminishment of life span and
over-all population. In effect, we will be thinning our own herd by our
lack of planning.

Carol,

Good point.

I always cringe when I hear someone claim that killing unborn children (often disguised by code words like “population control”) is somehow a virtue. The United States has now had unrestricted abortion for some 35 years. We’ve lost around 43,000,000 babies in that time, and we now are facing underpopulation, as is Japan and much of Europe.

Ironically, many claim we need unrestricted immigration because we don’t have enough younger people in the work force to pay taxes and support the Welfare State. Maybe if we still had those 43 million souls with us, we wouldn’t be so desperate to import poor Third-World citizens to do our manual labor at low wages.

The real cure for overpopulation is free market economies, freedom, and personal responsibility. When individuals can make a decent living and keep their accumulated wealth for themselves, they don’t need a huge family to provide security in their old age, or ensure at least a few children will survive infancy.

The real tipping point that approaches is whether human life will become even more devalued than it already is in the name of progressive (read:liberal) social policies.

You can call me a socialist, the devil, whatever you want. I’m all for population control. If any of you have ever watched The Matrix, part one, then you have heard the very correct discription of what other organism we share a common pattern with, a virus. We move into an area and and toil and pillage until all of the natural resources are used up and then we mulitply and spread to another area. Eventually, the host is gonna find some way to kick the disease, or the hose will simply die. People who have 10 kids because it is against their god’s will to use any form of birth control are irresponsible to this. To say this “man” has any plan to do anything with unborn children is presumtuous. I believe his intention is to cut the unborn off at the pass, so there is no abortion necessary. Alas, I do believe some form of population control is coming. Be it a world war, maybe some country releases a nuke or some bio weapon, or maybe we create our own super virus that is immune to any of our medicines since it has built up immunity due to all of the drugs we excrete out on a daily basis when we flush the toilet. Either way, The earth will only hold and sustain so many lifeforms.

JD,

The sad thing is that Conservatives are aborting children and divorcing their spouses at just as high percentages as Liberals. You need to stop with that non-sense.

Sad that people today cannot have large families. It has nothing to with abortions. Who can afford a large family, how many can stay home to raise a large family on one salary? Please stop simplifying the issue. I know many who dreamed of having large families and they’re heart broken over not being able to afford more children.

Let’s face it; the most prevailing problem is that men are not so much men anymore, is one of the greatest reasons for this break down in families. This is very much the case with both Republican and Democratic men can’t apply a party affiliation to that real crisis.

You are so right, Carol! John & Cindy McCain Own At Least Nine Houses In Arizona, California, and Virginia Worth an Estimated $13,123,269. They should downsize immediately or pay severe penalties!

And what about John McCain using a corporate jet owned by a company headed by his wife for campaigning — while he only paid a fraction of the actual cost of that jet? Even though McCain voted for a law requiring presidential candidates to pay the actual cost of flying on corporate jets! He not only needs to downsize his oversize lifestyle, he needs to stop being a hypocrite regarding campaign finance reform!

“[McCain’s] temper would place this country at risk in international affairs, and the world perhaps in danger. In my mind, it should disqualify him.” — former Republican Senator Bob Smith
