Let’s take a closer look at those folks who promise not to drink foreign beer
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
A number of people, who were upset about the buy-out of Anheuser-Busch, have promised not to drink “foreign” beer. It would be interesting to take a survey of these “loyal Americans” to find out how many of them are driving foreign cars!!

I stopped drinking Bud and sold my AB stock when they suppoted that vile rapper Ludicris, I wrote to AB and they sent me a nice note thanking us for our opinion but letting me know they would not be changing their position. It took the Inbev sale for my wife to give up on AB,she switched to Schlafly. We both drive American made cars.
blueman - And I’m sure AB was devastated by your actions. Don’t any of these posters know that STL consumption of AB products is less than a pimple on the ass of AB. despite my yearly contributions? Wake up STL, the world does not revolve around your city.
I agree with mogold, St. Louis is such a small market in the overall world picture you are hardly worth considering.
Same with the stockholders. Remember, there are 50 billion dollars (that’s BILLION with 9 zeroes after the 50) worth of AB stock out there and I’ll bet St. Louisans, including the Busch family don’t even own 10% of that amount. The rest of the stockholders are from every else on this earth and could really care less about what goes on in our town and what beer we drink.
I drink Heineken, a foreign beer. I have two Ford vehicles, (They were made in America from parts supplied From many countries) We live in a global market. If anyone believes he/she uses only American made products, if they extracted everyting from the home that does not have foreign make products in it, the house would fall down.
The garage would fall in on my “american made???cars)
Something else we agree on john. I drink Guinness and have been a Ford man for many years. (First On Race Day! or…For Off Road Duty!)
No sense taking the Busch/inBev fiasco out on the employees. They didn’t sell out, the owners did just like the rest of the filthy rich that have been selling out our entire country while they wave flags and claim to be patriotic. Show those bozos a buck blowing down the street and they’ll run over the own Mothers to grab it.
Besides, at least the beer is still made here in our State, besides the rest of the world. It’s nearly impossible to buy American because there isn’t much to buy.
Guys, I have no delusions about how my measly purchases will affect the AB InBev bottom line, I buy MO made first and American made second any foreign but china third. I will put just as many dollars back into the St. Louis economy buying Schlafly as I will AB
I’m not keen on the sale, but I’m not so sure I’m ready to write off the Busch family as money-mongers. It seems quite likely that they saw the writing on the wall a while back and were trying to make the best of the inevitable.
As for me, I drink foreign and domestic beer because I like beer for its variety and taste, thus I tend to shy away from mass market beer and in general have a preference for smaller companies over larger ones. I don’t make a promise to not buy foreign beer or products. I’m not always keen though on takeovers. It’s the downside of capitalism when greed takes over. Since I’m not overly keen about the business practices of some of the very large companies in the world, I make my purchases accordingly. Sometimes it’s a wash, not mattering who you buy or don’t buy from. Sometimes it’s easier to make delinations.
I quit voluntarily drinking AB products as well as other crappy “American Lagers” when I discovered there were really great beers being produced by other breweries on the local and national level. I have to agree with mogoid. St. Louis has a very center of the universe view of itself.
If there is a positive to this whole thing it might be that locals discover some of the truly “good” beers made right here in Missouri. Schlafly has already been mentioned and produces several very good beers ( APA is outstanding ). O’Fallon Brewers in O’Fallon, MO also craft some very good beers ( Try their IPA ). And Boulevard Beer from KC is a fine brew. You can support your local brewing industry and have a much better beer.
