Church’s credibility callled into question because it withheld information from review board

Once again the credibility of the institutional Roman Catholic Church is being brought into question with the accusations made in, “Board investigating abuse by priests didn’t get key info,” (08/09/09) and it is most distressing.

If any of the many serious accusations reported in this article are true it indicates that not much has really changed since 2002 and that the accountability and transparency promised by Wilton Gregory, now the bishop of Atlanta, amounts to little more than smoke and mirrors.

How long, O Lord, how long must your people endure such horrific violations of boys and girls, young women, men or vulnerable adults?

There is an epidemic of child abuse in this country, a pandemic worldwide.

Pornography and the trafficking in women and children worldwide rounds out the picture yet church officials seek to squash this case on the basis of statutes of limitation?

Unreal, unconscionable, and unacceptable. Where is the outrage?

Whatever happened to the gospel imperative, “and the Truth shall set you free?”

Either religious denominations believe this or they do not. If they do they should be supporting the removal of all statutes of limitation regarding the sexual abuse of children instead of being among the most vicious opponents to such necessary legislation.

The Illinois Supreme Court has a responsibility to let this case go forward.

Sto,

I hadn’t even contributed to this thread. No reason for the ad hominem (you can look it up). Please stop being such a child.

Re what Maureen Turlish called the epidemic of child sexual assault in this country - I think the Catholic Church is in part responsible for this epidemic. Since at least the 1950s, when my sister and I were raped as little girls outside Chicago, church heirarchy were allowing pedophiles to operate. Believe me, other pedophiles saw what catholic priests were getting away with, some went so far as to become priests themselves to have access to children.

Pedophiles saw Catholic priests getting away with serial criminal acts against children.
Serial.
As in these guys got away with raping us and our friends over and over again.

This free reign empowered pedophiles all over.

NOW generations later we have an epidemic, and the Catholic Church HAS TO face the responsibility of EMPOWERING PEDOPHILES and turning this evil loose upon our land.
It’s time to step up and be accountable for the truly horrendous nature of these crimes.

People, keep reading, pay attention. There are thousands more stories to come out in the next few years. You have only heard the small stuff, there is much more. I know. I’m a journalist and I am one of the crime victims, and what the priests got away with out here in California after decades of them doing it in the Midwest etcetera — it’s truly shocking -

The stories to come up in the future are so much worse. Be prepared. The church has got to stop cloaking all this in mystery and admit the horrendous mistake it made, forcing celibacy on healthy human males, so the priests ended up creating a whole new class of sex crimes.

Stay tuned
