How many more front-page stories can we stand?

How many more front-page articles can you do about Archbishop Burke and the Catholic Church?  This man says his final mass in St. Louis, and you choose it for your front page story, with a photograph.  I’m sure when Archbishop Burke is no longer news in St. Louis his replacement will be.  I can understand you need to cover this topic, but for it to be the top story is a bit ridiculous.  Please start placing these articles in a more appropriate section of the paper.  Thanks.

When the article is Pro-Burke, the Pro-Burke people want it front and center. When the article is critical of the Archbishop, the Pro-Burke folk want the story buried or they whine that the PD is picking on the church. Heads or tails, left or right, right or wrong, I was always told to accept the good and the bad. If one must choose, choose wisely.

Let’s not forget how the officials of the Catholic church denied, hid and buried the child sexual abuse scandals. That the Catholic church is still making monetary settlements today using funds from the loyal congregations that gave offerings in good faith. Glorifying these people only rubs salt in the wounded loyal Catholics.

I’m a loyal Catholic and was very much so “wounded” by the abuse crisis in the Church. However, I understand human nature and the Christian ideal of forgiveness and have chosen to move on from this tragedy because my faith in Christ and His Church will always remain, no matter what faults the individuals within it bring.

We will never see true healing from this unless people are willing to let go of their own grudges, biases, etc. and work to move forward, forgive, and reconcile. Considering that people still bring up their problems with the Church stemming from their supposed knowledge of the Inquisition, though, we may never see this go away because people will always want to point to the negative, rather than what the Church is doing to bring people closer to Christ.

If the Catholic Church were a legitimate business, all those involved with the scandal would be fired! Forgive them…yes, reward them with keeping their positions…NO!!! There can be no TRUST in them now. There needs to be new blood and wisdom.

Burke is a bum and with his leaving the Yoke Of Oppression is lifted from the faithful of this diocese..

Maybe the healing can start but remember” Reconciliation” is a two way street..

To paraphrase James Joyce, the Irish writer:

‘we are a priest-ridden city’.

And now Monsignor Burke goes on to Rome.

Phil, EJ, A. Patriot, Sto Lat, German,

Mike;

You condone the sex abuse cover-up? How does wanting right from wrongs make one a clansman? You had better go to confession!

No, I don’t condone anything, especially turning every mention of the Catholic Church into a rant about the “cover up”. Stick to the subject at hand. Anything less is Catholic-bashing, pure and simple.

The Church has done more to avoid future instances of abuse than any organization in the United States. Anyone even remotely connected with children in this Archdiocese must submit to an annual background check by the Missouri Highway Patrol. There have been no creditable current accusations against a Catholic priest in a very long time.

The transfer of the spiritual leader of 1/2 million Catholics is certainly worthy of front-page coverage which is the topic of this thread. Anyone who objects to that coverage, or who insists that the Church can do nothing right because some priests sinned 30-40 years ago, is a bigot. End of story.
