Why is there so much violence?

You know I can’t believe it! I am so SICK of hearing about shootings of innocent men, women, teens, and children that I honestly cannot stand it!!! How many times have we had prayer vigils; have people talked about “taking back our streets”, and vowed not to let these crimes continue!!? About a thousand? And yet it still happens. Everyday in the local law & order section of the Post there is 1 or 2 or MORE shootings from the previous night.

I hate guns. I have ALWAYS hated guns, and i will continue to hate guns until the day I die, which I hope & pray will not be prematurely due to a gunshot wound.

I don’t know the answer. I don’t think anyone does.

Isn’t it time , at least now, for another buy-out of guns by the City? At least you could get some of the d—- things off the streets.

Pay attention to what people say or do, bizzarre behaviour, statements that indicate someone’s about to go off, and report them. People, if you are having thoughts of killing yourself or someone else, please call 911 or go the nearest emergency room. I know, that would expect people to be able to think rationally.

For my part, I will report anything or anyone suspicious. I will pray for all the friends and families of those killed innocently, or in the line of duty. I will pray that violence in our society will become an old, ancient memory. I pray that lives , everyone’s , no matter whose , are valued by all as a child of God.

Dear God. Please help us.

My heartfelt condolences go out to the wife and child of Mathew Walsh. And all others who have innocently suffered his fate.

Jerry S. Hutter

“Isn’t it time , at least now, for another buy-out of guns by the City”

Yeah, because the criminals would be glad to sell their illegal guns to the city.

Fine. Guns aren’t the problem. Guns in the hands of people wishing to do harm are. I very much doubt anyone killed by a gun this year had it legally.

The real question is - Why are there so many stupid people in this world? Blaming a gun for killing a person is no different than blaming an automobile for killing a person. It’s a nonsensical argument because without some person pulling the trigger of the gun, or driving a car…these objects (both guns and cars) are completely harmless and can’t possibly kill anyone. The PROBLEM is with the person, not the object. I have owned guns for 25 of my 40 years here on earth, and I have never shot or killed any person with any of my guns. So why should I have to give up my guns so that you and your tiny brain can feel all warm and fuzzy?

The answer is to take guns away from CRIMINALS - that’s a novel idea…but we can’t go blaming innocent criminals for his/her actions - it might hurt their self esteem? Right Jerry?

I’m sorry Jerry, but you are a complete moron without the ability to come to logical conclusions. Criminals kill people, Psychopaths kill people, thugs kill people, sometimes horrible accidents happen and innocent kids die because their parents didn’t lock up guns in a safe place. However, guns are just tools - they don’t have an agenda and they can’t kill people. Guns are only as bad as the person holding it.

Gaucho, that is why we have failing school systems. That’s why so many people are not capable of thinking for themselves. The very best thing you could do for the criminals is to eliminate guns for law abiding citizens. The buy out was a complete joke. You know as well as I do that people brought non-working guns to the city for buyout purposes. It’s a joke. Do any of these non-thinking people truly believe that the criminals brought their guns in? This lack of logic just baffles me sometimes.

Does Jerry aware the Washington D.C. has the toughest gun laws in the country and also has the highest gun violence problems? This feel-good liberal attitude is so pathetic and non-thinking.

I have a question for you guys: Do you REALLY want to keep the guns out of the hands of the criminals? Do you REALLY want to enforce the laws that are currently on the books?

Then why do you belittle and protest any attempt to actually do it? Why do you applaud when funding to law enforcement is cut? Why do you criticize gun buy-backs?

How would you propose getting them out of the hands of the criminals? Sorry, guys, many of you do seem to believe vigilante justice is the way to go. Really?

hs,

I oppose gun buybacks because the evidence shows that they are ineffective and do not decrease crime. They usually gather old broken down guns that do not work. Also, the buyback programs act as a further incentive to steal guns because they offer a ready market for stolen guns with no questions asked.

Milton Freidman made the profound statement that any government program should be judged by it actual results and not by the intent of the program. An emotion rant about hating guns is not a reason to support an ineffective and costly program.

Why try to prevent nuclear proliferation? It’s not the weapons that kill people…it’s dictators that kill people. The world would be much better off if we supplied every country with nuclear weapons…Blaming nuclear weapons for death and destruction is like blaming automobiles.

The rest of the modern world understands this insane and archaic logic.
That’s why there are strict gun laws in most developed Western countries.
The “gun-nut” Neanderthals, simpletons, and Homer Simpsons of this country are easily influenced by gun manufactures who profit from innocent deaths sponsored by their NRA lobby.

Over 1 million Americans have been killed by guns on American streets since 1968….If we look at the number of Japanese killed in Nagasaki ( 80,000, ) that’s one atomic weapon dropped on Americans every 3.2 years.

Like I said….Neanderthals supporting gun profits because the gun lobby tells us we’re safe with over 200 million guns on our streets and neighborhoods.

To all those who oppose lawful gun ownership: Do you really want a country where the only people who have guns (besides law enforcement)are the criminals??? If you think things are bad now, they would be 10 times worse in your utopian dream. In your ideal world there would be more crime, not less because the criminals would know that NO ONE has a gun to defend themselves with. The example of D.C. given in an earlier post is a prime example of this, crime is rampant there because it is known that most of the people living there can’t defend themselves. To Jerry and all the others like him, would you be willing to live there??? If not, then your own arguments won’t hold water. Emotions are a powerful thing and you need to learn to make decisions based on logic, not feelings.
