Catholic voters always choose life

The U.S. Catholic Bishops, representing the Catholic faithful, have prepared a letter to our new president -elect congratulating him and requesting that he consider the unborn life in the womb with his plans for “hope and change.“

This sentiment should have been expessed by Catholics themselves in this past election.

What has been called the “Catholic vote” unfortunately included some who refer to themselves as Catholics, and to them, “hope and change” only meant “getting rid of the likes of Bush and Burke.“ The Bishops’ references to “protecting the life of the unborn“ and the term “intrinsic evil” in taking unborn life seemed to fall on deaf ears.

Still the Faithful continue to pray for those who didn’t want to hear and now pray that the letter of the Bishops to the new administration will be heard speaking for the Catholic voter who chose life for all members of our society, including the unborn.

So does any born person have the right to “choose life” when it involves using another person’s organs, blood and body parts without that person’s continuing consent?

A two-celled blastula, to you, is a full human being with more rights than any born human has (since no born human may use another’s body parts against their will, even if they previously consented and then changed their mind). Yet its thinking, feeling, independently-living mother is a thing whose life matters no more than the incubating machine in the next hospital room. Her wishes as to the use of her own personal body are not of concern - her body is not hers, because she is a thing, a non-person. It doesn’t matter what happens to her as a result of the pregnancy - she’s a thing, a non-person, not a member of society whose life is important.

How can this be logical, or kind, or humane? I know it’s historically true that Catholics have made a woman’s worth as a person dependent on either her virginity or her willingness to bear child after child until she dies of it, but that doesn’t make it right. Or applicable to non-Catholic women, who have a right to be regarded as full citizens under the law, not incubating machines to be used at will, even if they *gasp* have sex.

Pro-Life isn’t just about abortion. Poverty, war, health care, etc. are all life issues. Bush and the republicans did nothing for those living in poverty. Did nothing to help people without quality health care (including children)…and we know about the war.

So, when you vote for a candidate that is “pro-life”….how pro-life is that?

You have to love the inflaming rhetoric “real catholics” use when tsk, tsk-ing, the “fake catholics” (is that anything like Palin’s “real Americans” remark?). Well, to all you “real catholics” more numbers of “fake catholics” cast votes for Obama this year. Either you need to tone down the rhetoric or you’ll continue to drive us “fake catholics” away.

Read the article in today’s paper about how the church’s revenue has dropped by 37% and imagine that number getting bigger and bigger as you further alienate “fake catholics”. Then after the last mass at the cathedral basillica finishes up because all the church’s funds have been paid to lawyers and to church sex abuse victims they had to sell the building, you’ll sit there and wonder…geez, where did all the “fake catholics” go.

I wish that this argument would STOP! it is extremely NON-PRODUCTIVE! Certainly the “Evil One” is very pleased with the Catholic Church and Evangelicans and their ways concerning women who choose abortions and politicians and others who feel that a woman should have the choice.

Isn’t it funny how the Bible says the soul enters the body upon the first breath, but Catholics want to pretend like an embryo is a human being? Maybe if they accept the fact that humans have and will continue to have sex, then they will start teaching ways to prevent pregnancies.
It is unrealistic to expect humans to only have sexual desires when it is time to procreate. This means most humans will only have sex a few times in their entire existence, highly unrealistic. Masturbation is even a “sin.” We have needs and sex is one of them. Married couples use contraceptives and have sex, why? Because not everyone is in a position to support children and most people don’t want abortions and take the responsible means to ensure that is never an issue in their lives.
How archaic is the Catholic Church? They follow scripture written by men for men thousands of years ago. A lot has changed in that time and the Catholics either need to adapt, or they will go extinct.
