If Obama can restore our honor and treasure, he will have worked miracles

As the bloated, decaying corpse of the Bush Administration is towed out to sea for safe sinking, it is important for us to remember the incredible damage that the last 8 years have done. If Mr. Obama can recover something of our national honor, national treasure, and international reputation, he will have accomplished miracles.

1) The Iraq war: The war began with lies, was run by incompetents, and has created vast numbers of enemies for our country. The next 20 years will be consumed in recovering from this shameful period. The war was entirely unjustified, and we knew it at the moment we invaded. We had the knowledge of the false war, and Bush invaded anyway. Bush and Cheney should be tried as war criminals.

2) The national debt: In 8 years, Bush/Cheney have doubled our long-term national debt. This is due to the incredibly stupid conservative economic idea that you can cut taxes, run two wars, and cut no programs. Bush and Cheney should be tried as economic criminals.

3) National unity of the United States: The Republican Party has used social issues and hot-button emotional nut ideas to divide the United States. In the last eight years, one group after another has been used as a bogeyman. Our nation is one nation, not the good guys versus the bad guys. The Republican Party has done this divisive, hateful politics because they know that they have loser issues. Bush and Cheney should be tried as national unity criminals.

4) Our international reputation: First there was the Iraq war. Then there was the banking crisis, another Republican mess created by stupid deregulation. It will take a long time for other non-Americans to respect us. Bush and Cheney should be tried as international criminals.

5) The environment and science policy: Bush has done everything possible to damage the environment and has damaged science policy. From drilling for oil in national parks to breaking his campaign promise to regulate carbon to muzzling scientists to forcing science policy executives to actually lie, Bush/Cheney have done great harm to the environment, to our scientific competitiveness, and to the future ability to compete. Bush and Cheney should be tried as science criminals.

It has not taken long for the Republican letter writers to begin to try to damage his presidency and he has not yet been inaugurated. We must all support Mr. Obama, as he tries to restore our country from the incredibly damaging 8 years of Republican misrule under Bush. For those Republicans in the audience, you should spend your time apologizing for your votes for Bush, rather than criticizing Obama.

Bob:

“You want a history lesson? FDR went to WW II with no choice, if you remember a little thing called Pearl Harbor left him no choice. Iraq was a war of choice.

As for the intelligence that all others saw, they saw a filter intelligence. Even the CIA admits that they were told not to include some information because it did not agree with the administrations view point. This eventually led to many of the top analyst quitting because they could not stand it anymore.”

How can you keep a straight face and say that everybody in an organization as big as the CIA is, or should be, of the same opinion? And if they’re not, all intelligence data should be discarded? Excuse my bluntness but that’s crazy Bob.

“Afghanistan and Iraq are two different wars. One had to do with 9/11, note the money people and planners were aided by the Taliban in Afghanistan. The other had nothing to do with 9/11 unless you wish to believe the mantra which was proven incorrect even before we went into Iraq. Note by the time we went in Bush was pushing the WMD line more than any other line.”

Excessive alcohol consumption has blurred your mind. Have you no memory of the mood of our country between 9/11/2001 and March 20, 2003? Every whacked out loopy in our country and their relatives in Canada were catatonic with rage because Bush didn’t connect the dots and prevent the sneak attack by genocidal maniacs. Had Bush chosen to not act and Saddam did have the WMD that every intelligence agency in the world concluded that he did, you might be wading through bodies up to your shoulder blades, howling to the Heavens, blaming Bush for not protecting us. Is that what you would rather have?

“As for our standing over seas. Look what they thought of us when Bush took over and what they think of us today. Bottom line he, severely damaged our foreign relations.”

Do Democrats automatically pass out Crazy Licenses or do they have to apply for them? Germany and France opposed US policy not because Bush damaged foreign relations but because Germany sold Iraq weapons and war technology while France lived high on the UN Oil for Food program, buying heavily discounted oil from Iraq and all funds for the program were handled through BNP Paribas bank in Paris, rather than the Iraqi government. Those corrupt governments whose affection you crave so desperately have been replaced in democratic elections by leaders more friendly to the US.

“Please learn history before you quote it.”

Good advice Bob, but you should take it as well as give it.

Now it is my turn to ask how you can keep a straight face with your crazy comments. No everyone in an organization do not need to have the same opinion. However, there is a difference between a difference of opinion and throwing out opinion in order to shape the information to meet your preconceived idea’s. There was a large segment within the CIA if not the majority that disagreed with what Bush wanted to hear. There was the State Department Intelligence agency that disagreed with what Bush wanted to hear. Many of the documents Bush tried to use was debunked by British Intelligence service. Yet the administration filtered out much if not most of the information. Even at the time that Powell went before the UN the administration was trying to use such obviously wrong information Powell made them remove some of the most outrageous statements before he went before the UN.

“Had Bush chosen to not act and Saddam did have the WMD that every intelligence agency in the world concluded that he did, you might be wading through bodies up to your shoulder blades, howling to the Heavens, blaming Bush for not protecting us”

You started this by asking if I had to much to drink, thus the statements of someone who has no facts he just tries to demean the other person a true Conservative technique. Once again I point to my previous paragraph. You also can throw the UN in on this, they said that there was no weapons of mass destruction. It was the Bush administration talking about mushroom clouds that got the country going. You whip up the frenzy over the issue and then use that to say that the wackos would be after Bush if he did not take action. The WMD became the mantra when the more obvious attempt to link Iraq to 9/11 was easily proven to be false. Yet with all of that and no matter what experts on Iraq said no one wanted to believe that the Taliban and Bin Laden hated Iraq has much has they hated the US.

You poor poor person who continues hold onto the lies of the administration.

Since you asked about Democrats and the Crazy License, let me ask about the conservatives and their right to DENIAL. The support for the Iraq war brought down governments in Poland and Spain and almost did the same for Italy. It contributed heavily to the change in Britain. The only thing that saved the Italian government was the withdraw of their troops. In Britain the troop withdraw had already begun at the time of the change. Even today when France and Germany contribute they do so in Afghanistan were there is a connection to 911 and not Iraq.

I have learned history and you have learned to deny history when it is counter to what you wish to believe. I suggest you learn to analyze events and not just parrot back the conservative view point.

Even though I regard Barack Obama as a rational, decent guy, I did’nt vote for him out of concern that his administration would be too inclined to pander to irrational left-wing nuts like Paul Thompson who think that the U.S. has somehow lost its “honor” while taking the lead (however imperfectly) in protecting the world from Moslem extremism. I also didn’t vote for McCain out of concern that his administration (starting with Palin) would continue the Bush Administration’s tendency to promote its own view of (Christian) religion above science and logic.

The message for both political extremes is that if you want centrists to support your candidates, and thereby win future elections, you had better either get real or at least tone down your public rhetoric.

Bob

I am filled with hatred of stupid people. Not just the clown who wrote that post, but stupid right wing nuts as well. They are unmoving, jaded, and could careless about our country. They don’t listen to an opposing argument. Instead they try to keep you from saying your piece. My hatred is not devisive. It is my frustration of those who would divide us with thier hatred that makes me hate filled. Yet my hatred is short lived while thiers continues.

As far as FDR you missed my point. Jumping into a war can put you initially at a disadvantage, and things take time to start clicking. I think the thought of how easy desert storm was what made him decide to jump in and we found ourselves in a bit of a mess. Remember not having all the gear our soldiers needed. That presented a problem, but thing are going much smoother there, and we are winning. Still this is the middleeast, and even if or when we win it won’t stay that way unless we stay there forever. Unfortunately, that is not the democratic argument. They think we’ve been there too long. I don’t know about that. All I know is if we pull out it should be done silently. Afganistan was a military action. I do not recall it being called war. You are correct about afgan and 9/11 vs Iraq, although I’m not sure how that came up.
