About that UAW unemployment letter …
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
In a letter Jan 13 Marcie DeFiese claims the UAW laid-off workers are bankrupting the State Of Missouri. She needs to read her own letter. The UAW workers do not collect any more state unemployment benefits than any other laid-off workers. The payments the UAW workers receive beyond the state unemployment benefits are paid by their employer and not the state.
This a benefit was negotiated between the UAW and their employer.

“The UAW workers do not collect any more state unemployment benefits than any other laid-off workers. The payments the UAW workers receive beyond the state unemployment benefits are paid by their employer and not the state.”
The complaint was that laid off UAW grifters collect SUB pay in addition to State unemployment benefits while everybody else gets the total amount of any other income deducted from the state benefits. That is a net loss to the state for auto assemblers and why would you think the public treasury is subject to negotiations between the UAW and their employers?

It is appearent that many folks do not understand the nature of union benefits or ideas like pay packages. For instance, they do not realize that the company “deducts” monies from employees pay to fund programs like supplimental pay (or insurance and on and on).
Yes folks, sub pay is not a “gift” from a company and is paid for by deductions from employees pay just as is every other benefit. Unions negoatiate benefits like sub-pay insurance incase company has poor economic spell.
Unemployment is likewise not a gift any more than social security. Both are calculated as part of pay packages and employees directly and indirecty pay these taxes. These are also not “gifts” from the company nor are they “gifts” from the nation. They are bought and paid for by the working folks of America. Yes, the working folks of America are the ones paying the bills around here and not the corporations.
Sad so many scabs, scroundrels and fools get these things wrong either thru ignorance or delibert misrepresentation. They never seem to rely upon a little thing like facts by the way.
One wonders when they do pass shortly the Employee Free Trade Act, how they are going to take it.
When Marcie DeFiese finds herself unemployed, let her draw from her 401K before she receives any state unemployment benefits.
I’m tired of the yappers going on about the UAW.
When the hell are you yappers going to start going after the corporate scoundrels that belong in jail for all the billions and billions or is it trillions in credit fraud?
SHADDUP!

It’s becoming painful to read your authoritative sounding prattle that is totally lacking accuracy and or integrity. SUB Pay is not deducted from each employee’s pay nor is it insurance, it’s from a negotiated general fund paid by the employer to a union and managed by that union. If a company has a “poor economic spell” and the SUB Pay swamp has already been drained, employers and certainly the unions do not increase any contributions, it is discontinued until corporate jets are fired up for a trip to Washington DC to plead for tax payer assistance so they can continue the pampering of lug nut tighteners.

I haven’t seen anybody defending the corporate scoundrels but sure as sin, if any money is recovered from them, the victims will get only a $3.50 coupon on the purchase of a new $450 thousand house while fat cat lawyers get enough cash to burn a wet mule. And besides, we were given no choice in the sub prime mortgage fiasco but that doesn’t mean we have to continue throwing our money at other grifters.
Hello Icon
Good evening
“It’s becoming painful to read your authoritative sounding prattle that is totally lacking accuracy and or integrity. SUB Pay is not deducted from each employee’s pay nor is it insurance, it’s from a negotiated general fund paid by the employer to a union and managed by that union.”
Again Icon, I see that you do not understand “pay packages” and benefits. The union does not manage sub insurance benefits, the company does. When the sub-pay pot is exhausted, so are the benefits under many plans.
That sub-pay pot is a general fund that has deductions from the pay-package of the workers and is in essance part of their pay. Unemployment is deducted from the sub-pay as well.
By the way, the value of the UAW give backs to the companies is in the range of $7 billion. Far as I am concerned, that is enough concessions.
“tax payer assistance so they can continue the pampering of lug nut tighteners.”
Pampering? Icon, I doubt seriously that many of the detractors of labor could even last the trial period because some of the jobs are hard work and pretty thankless work at that. Ever do some factory work my friend?
“It’s becoming painful to read your authoritative sounding prattle that is totally lacking accuracy and or integrity.”
Sad Icon, but it is painfully obvious that you do not read your own stuff, which is prettly devoid of facts. Your anti-union blather is something to behold at times. It is better than some other’s drivel, but only at a minimal level. Try some real facts for a change. Maybe read up on the subject and we have some excellent libraries in the metro area.
By the way, talking about UAW; this is the leaked memo from the GOP senate folks reported in several media outlets. I think it explains some of the actions in congress by GOP.
This is mirrored by some of the anti-union parrots whom one can read from time to time in the Post. These junior GOPers blather the union this or the union that with little or no facts.

Today at noon, Senators Ensign, Shelby, Coburn and DeMint will hold a press conference in the Senate Radio/TV Gallery. They would appreciate our support through messaging and attending the press conference, if possible. The message they want us to deliver is:
1. This is the democrats first opportunity to payoff organized labor after the election. This is a precursor to card check and other items. Republicans should stand firm and take their first shot against organized labor, instead of taking their first blow from it.
2. This rush to judgment is the same thing that happened with the TARP. Members did not have an opportunity to read or digest the legislation and therefore could not understand the consequences of it. We should not rush to pass this because Detroit says the sky is falling.
The sooner you can have press releases and documents like this in the hands of members and the press, the better. Please contact me if you need additional information. Again, the hardest thing for the democrats to do is get 60 votes. If we can hold the Republicans, we can beat this.
Icon, you might want to check your facts. SUB pay is not managed by any union. It is managed by the corporation.

SUB pay was negotiated to pay the members of the UAW while the plants were being re-tooled for new models each and every year. The idea behind it was that the company would not lose their skilled auto assemblers and have to re-hire and re-train a new work force each year. The plan works so well that even Toyota uses it. Toyota Idles Factories but Can’t Lay Anybody Off
As the U.S. auto industry sheds workers, and even Nissan offers buyouts, Toyota is sticking by its expensive tradition of no layoffs during hard times.

The UAW wages and benefits make up less than 10% of the total cost of a vehicle. The same today when things are bad as they were when the big three were celebrating record profits. The UAW has taken many concessions to keep the labor costs below 10%.
We all know what the UAW workers earn what about the CEO’s? The CEO of Ford made more than $22 Million last year thats more than $10,500 per hour. In one day he makes more than a typical auto worker makes in a year. The CEO of Toyota makes less than one million per year. Why haven’t the SCAB Senators from the south demanded the same wage concessions from the white collars in the big three that they have from the blue collar UAW members? Where’s your rant on that Icon?
I’m sure glad we bought a Honda so we don’t have to participate in this BS.
I just regret my tax dollars being used to bail out the auto companies regardless of whose at fault, labor or management.
