Billingsly: Keeping your enemies close
Several readers have recently suggested the Z. Dwight Billingsly’s columns be removed from this papers lineup. I couldn’t disagree more. In fact, I would suggest that the Post run a column of Mr. Billingsly’s EVERYDAY.
Mr. Billingsly is more honest and straightforward than any right sider I have every encountered. He doesn’t even pretend to care about anyone except himself. His recent column stating that federal spending on our health or the education of our children would be a waste of money only emphasizes the indifference of he and his ilk
His daily column would be a constant reminded of just how dangerous the selfish and greedy really are. The overused adage about “keeping your enemies closer” couldn’t be more fitting.

Kudos, Bill.
Bill, if you dont take away from everyone else then what is the world coming to? How dare anyone suggest that you take care of yourself. Lets have babies and more babies and expect everyone else to pay for it!
Way to go Dwight, I am with you all the way.
Anti-abortion and against helping impoverished children obtain the “American Dream” one day. Got to love conservatives.
Superdave, so how do you explain how Republicans can be “pro-life” and still complain about all the extra babies you are supposedly forced to pay for?
Dwight, welcome to irrelevence.
Conservatives will spend any amount of money to “save” a blastocyst, but the second that baby passes through the birth canal, they would rather let it DIE than spend one red cent to save its life.
I don’t get why ANYONE would be opposed to government spending on contraception. Providing low-income women with birth control to prevent unwanted pregnancies…
– Saves taxpayers’ money for Medicaid to cover prenatal care and deliveries
– Saves taxpayers’ money for Welfare and Medicaid coverage for the mother and child(ren)
– Saves taxpayers’ money for Foster Care and Adoption
– Saves taxpayers’ money for Special Education (necessary due to alcohol and/or drug abuse by the mother)
– Saves taxpayers’ money for Juvenile Detention Centers and Prisons
– Reduces the number of sexually transmitted diseases, saving taxpayers’ money to treat those diseases
Republicans are clearly irresponsible with our tax dollars. Every $1 spent on contraception saves $3 for Medicaid spending on pregnancy care alone.
Oh yeah, and spending on contraception will reduce abortions, a goal of the pro-choice AND the “pro-life” movements.
One more thing, if a poor Catholic woman is opposed to contraception for religious reasons, she is free to have as many babies as she wants. No one is being forced to use contraception.
Bill,
He dosen’t even pretend to care about anyone except himself!!! I agree with you, and most logical, rational, thinkers are turned off by his selfessness.
It would be a constant reminder of the dangerous selfish greedy mentality of some. Unfortunately, the selfish and greedy would feed off of it and cheer Billingsly’s hateful comments. Maybe we could have the Great Rush Limbaugh write an editorial daily also and then the “holier than thou” conservatives could quit hating the Post Dispatch. Just might work!!!
So Lisa, if this is a stimulus package, then where are the jobs? Where is the stimulus?
superdave,
Are you asking how does government spending on contraception create jobs? Nurses, doctors and administrative staff are needed to run the family planning clinics. If clinics need to be built, that requires construction workers. The pharmaceutical companies need workers to manufacture the contraceptives.
As you may recall, in 1993 Missouri cut every penny from its family planning budget ($5.1 million) and since then has not reinstated any of that money. Many family planning clinics closed as a result.
Thats because they were stealing it from us to pay for it!!!
Who the hell are you to think that your clinic should be paid with my money??
Try doing it with volunteer money and NOT my tax money! You liberals are too much! Why dont you just come over here and take the money directly from me. Please!
superdave,re
And as a result of the elimination of the family planning budget, you are paying even more taxes to support children who were not wanted in the first place. Genius.
