A simple act shows hypocrisy of senators
Senator Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) was flown in a U.S. government airplane from his mother’s wake in Ohio to Washington D.C. so that he could vote on the stimulus bill. He was then returned to Ohio in the same manner to attend her funeral. What a fantastic statement on the utility of the private aircraft that President Obama and others in his Democratic party have been disclaiming as unnecessary extravagances and mere perks for corporate executives. In fact, Mr. Brown’s office justified the airplane’s use by saying that his presence in Washington was “official business” and that there were no commercial flights available that would allow him to travel in a timely manner.
If those who have bashed the use of private aircraft didn’t understand their necessity before, now they certainly do. Hereafter, it will be the height of hypocrisy for any of them to deride the use of private aircraft for corporations and businessmen to accomplish the same goal that Mr. Brown did; to conduct their business in a safe, reliable, and timely manner.
Unfortunately, I’m sure the list of hypocrites will be long. I believe it is not so much their goal to hold businesses accountable for the effective use of their capital (it’s really not any of their business, either) as it is to foment envy and divide people into classes so they can make points with “their own group” and get reelected.

Tim, don’t Democrats have different rules? Not only that, but our money is their money. They steal our money and just claim it! They dont pay their taxes and get away with it. We dont pay our taxes and we get severely fined or go to jail. We pay our bills and Obama takes the tax money and gives it to those who dont. So where do you see the hypocrisy?
I assume that Tim is referring to the Big 3 flying to DC on private planes.
The vote was scheduled to accommodate the votes of 99 Senators. The death of the mother of one was an unforeseen event. Even if she was sick when the vote was scheduled the death could have happened on any of several days. You cannot phone in a vote.
The Big 3 had ample notice that they were suppose to be in DC an a predetermined date. They could have flown in on any of a number of flights. Their business can be done over the phone and by use of a fax machine and email.
The Big 3 came to DC to ask for money. yet they came has if they had all the money that anyone could wish to have.
There is a difference between what happened with Brown and the executives.
Superdave
You are really out of touch with reality if you do not understand the difference between a key vote and choosing to fly on a private jet when many commercial flights are available.
I also believe he is talking about the Big 3. They came asking for money and came like they already had it.
Bob, you are so right. If that vote wasn’t held so quickly then I would imagine the United States would have ceased to exist as we know it, according to Obama. If this was so important, then why didnt Obama sign it the same night? Who are you kidding Bob?
We had to RACE this legislation to a vote before the American people had a chance to view the stimulus package. Come to think of it the very senators didnt even know what was in the package either. Was that important? Apparently not! In reality, it probably wouldn’t have passed in its present form which is ONE GIANT PORK BILL!
Superdave
You wish to argue whether the bill was good or bad. So you change the subject from the reason a private plane was used. So you are saying if the bill had been voted on a month later you would not have objected if the other circumstances existed? Tim does not appear to say that there is any difference. Your original reply does not appear to show any difference, in fact you seem to mix the message.
Yeah, I can completely see how flying in from your dead mother’s wake to vote on something that is designed to help the faltering economy and then flying back is the same as what the Big 3 execs did, among the many other execs. I mean, his mother was probably against the bill anyways and figured if she died it would keep him from voting, thus helping to defeat it.
Never underestimate the power of ignorance combined with a keyboard and free will.
“I believe it is not so much their goal to hold businesses accountable for the effective use of their capital (it’s really not any of their business, either) as it is to foment envy and divide people into classes so they can make points with “their own group” and get reelected.”
If they are recieving tax dollars to prop them up, then it absolutely is everyones business. Fomenting envy and dividing people are the right wings most usefull tools.
Socialists = hypocrisay
As I see it, SOSDD. The priveledged ruling class is up to their same old stuff. Does not matter if they are Republican or Democratic. They are all a waste of time.
superdave: ONE GIANT PORK BILL!
You keep repeating this lie. I will keep correcting you.
Pork is an earmark. Earmarks are when funding is specified for a specific project in a Congressman’s district. There is no pork in the stimulus bill. Feel free to say you don’t like something in the bill, such as wetlands restoration, high speed rail, bridges, roads, homeland security, or whatever. But there is NO pork in the bill.

Yet later in the day [Rep.Don Young (R) Alaska] — who recently told McClatchy that he would’ve included earmarks, or local projects, in the bill if it had been permitted — issued another statement blasting the overall measure.
Lisa, please take this the right way. You are a left wing socialist nutcase. If YOU cannot see that this is not pork then I truly wonder what planet you are on. This is all pork! Just because your new Messiah says it isnt doesn’t mean squat. Either you havent read the bill or you are incompetent. Either way, its scary. Could you tell the class why you think you have a RIGHT to their money?
