Where’s that maverick, reach-across-the aisle McCain?
Where? Where is he? Where, oh, where is the maverick Senator John “Reach Across The Isle” McCain? During his 2008 campaign for president, Senator McCain told Americans that he was the candidate of inclusion; that, if elected, he would “reach across the isle” to Democrats to include them in his presidential plans. Was that declaration nothing more than a campaign falsehood? Apparently it was!
America is in dire economic circumstances. Economists of every stripe agree that Obama’s economic stimulus plan is not a panacea, but it is a plan worthy of implementation. They all agree that action must be taken now because America urgently needs to be pulled from the economic doldrums. Yet Senator McCain, contrary to the maverick image he touted during his election days, refuses to cull himself from the Republican obstructionists herd and support our President by voting in favor of the Obama stimulus package.

True to his form, that testy old maverick has turned his back to Barack Obama, Teddy Kennedy and Russ Feingold just like he has done for years to the Republicans that elected him. It’s not party loyalty, he just gets his jollies screwing people who depend on him.
Exactly what kind of drugs are you taking Michael? You say “Economists of every stripe agree that Obama’s economic stimulus plan is not a panacea, but it is a plan worthy of implementation.” That might be true on your left wing sights but this “stimulus” is a complete joke. Finally, McCain acts something like a conservative and you are upset that he didnt become a complete socialist?
WE conservatives have not had real representation since Ronald Reagan left office. Many of us were and still are very upset by the over-spending of the previous administration and that’s why Democrats now are in charge. However, you put Democrats in charge and now you have the largest spending package ever in the history of the world and you want conservatives to smile and say good luck? No way buddy!
The Obama stimulus package is pork. Only a fraction will even be spent this year, when it is needed. It is mostly more money for existing entitlement programs and a tiny amount for infrastructure. The CEO of Nucor, a steel company, was on TV the other day explaining how the stimulus is a joke and will do nothing. Note how the stock market rose today on anticipation of the REPUBLICAN plan and its tax cuts. Obama’s plan is not worthy of implementation. Most Americans oppose it, and rightly so.
Operative words being “if elected…HIS presidential plans.” Guess what? He wasn’t elected President, and it’s not his plan being offered. So, I’d say all bets are off for reaching “across the aisle” to a plan with which he understandably disagrees. Like most Republicans.

McCain lost the election if you forgot. The better question is why isn’t “The Chosen One” reaching across the aisle, as he stated numerous times, while telling the whoppers that he would on all matters. You my sir, voted for a liar, and one that condones tax cheats.
True bipartisanship, transparency and ethical conduct is finally evident in the changing of administrations. Barack Obama has set a sterling example with his cabinet picks, inspiring a tripartite committee composed of Senators Russell Feingold, Byron Dorgan and Claire McCaskill to persuade Senator Orrin Hatch to be more agreeable with Democrats and cheat on his taxes.
Michael, I think it’s hilarious that you expect him to vote in favor of a “simulus package” than even some decmocrats are against! I see no mention of those people that were so informed with all the extra crap spending in this package that they voted against their own party.
