Young man should be thanked in chimp incident

In light of recent events, I hope Circuit Judge Gary Kramer and the 300 people he ordered Jason Coats to apologize to in writing for shooting an attacking chimp in 2001 have the decency to write Coats back with their own apology. Hey, “outraged animal rights activists,” Coats’ quick action may be the only reason he still has a face.

And I hope Governor Jay Nixon sees fit to pardon Coats for this unwarranted felony conviction and lets Coats get his life back. Perhaps a lawyer in the Festus area can step up and help Coats right this wrong.

I am amazed at how we have arrived to a point where animals have equal or more rights than human beings. Animals are animals. Perior! They have absolutely no rights.

I remember the story when it happened and Coates did not stand a chance and was demonized by the media and crazy people. They did not e that he was in fear of his life, the life of his dog or friend.

It is a good excuse for many others against a certain group of people but not monkeys or other animals. What a sick society we have come to and I love animals as much as anyone, but they are animals and not equal to humans.

Man was placed on this earth to dominate animals not other human-beings.

We are animals! Only thing that separates us from other animals is our ability to use reason and logic. It is illogical to keep a wild animal, such as a chimp, as a pet. Should someone be chastised for killing a crazed wild animal? No, but the lesson should be learned to leave the 12 foot anacondas, leopard, lions, spiders, scorpions, etc. in the damn wild where they belong. A wild animal is just that: wild! Fish? Ok, Cats and dogs? fine, but a damn chimp as a pet is RETARDED!!!!

Bill,

Ditto.
However, Homo Sapiens is not the only animal to use reason and logic. My favorite example is a dog that understood over 200 words. He had, maybe, 150 toys arranged in a circle. When told to fetch one of these toys, he would search for it and bring it back. A strange, unknown toy was placed in the circle, and the dog was instructed to fetch this new toy. He went around the circle of toys and when he found the new toy, he picked it up and brought it back.

By their reactions, one would almost think that chimpanzees don’t care for involuntary captivity. And after we’ve taught them so many necessary skills for surviving in the wild like how to smoke cigarettes, how to wear clothes, and how to adapt to orbital space flight. Maybe we should try lions instead.

Maybe its time to stop looking upon ourselves as owners of the world, and consider ourselves for what we truly are: temporary guests. Judging by the way man clears the forests, erodes the soil, fouls the air and water, disposes of mountains of refuse and self-righteously spouts convenient bromides about God’s will, while subjugating fellow Earth inhabitants, is it any wonder I never have people over?

As far as the law of the land. Self defense is self defense, either it be from another person or from the chimp. This writer has nailed it and with humility and wisdom comes a willingness of those to admit mistakes. Hopefully a judge of all people would understand that.

Have you animal haters all lost your mind. Kill a cat or dog and go to prison or at least have a felony rap. Kill or Molest a child… Probation IF that.

“The Greatest Joy in Nature is the Absence of Man”

I read this quote 20 years ago and have never forgot it. I am not even sure who this quote came from.

We need to pass laws to ban this exotic pet fettish. The people/nuts that feel a need to have tigers, chimps, aligators, etc. as pets are very selfish human beings.

Frank,

Animals do have rights and last time I checked it is againist the law to abuse, neglect, or worse to any animal in this state. Come on Frank have a heart!

Mr Kooper…..Thank you so much for your support. It was a horrible time to us and for me to hear Judge Kramer tell my son “boy you are the making of a futer cerial killer.” What a horrific thing to hear with my ears and tell a young boy “don’t believe that son, don’t even take any truth to those words.” D.Wilson…thank you too, for even remembering how we were so slammed by everyone. When yes, i too think Jason should be thanked he was thinking of everyone else. He should have been a hero and was deemed totally the opposite. However, justice will prevail. Jason has proof of everything he needs. He has been quite for 8 years and finally he can show the truth of that day, and he will even press to have laws changed to protect humans from any other attacks. We also have a petition going forward too to get this not pardoned but exhonerated. You all are a blessing to us. Thank you again so much.
