More fall-out from rush to pass stimulus bill
Once more we see more fallout from the the ill-advised rush to produce a so-called stimulus bill.
When Congressman Russ Carnahan gave his “state of the District address” at the Affton firehouse, it was clear that he was absolutely clueless. He read a text that he obviously had not written, and apparently had never bothered to read. He was unable to answer any questions coherently, and the entire theme of his talk was that we might not know what we’re doing, but we’d better do it fast.
During Mr. Carnahan’s speech in Affton, one could actually see Nancy Pelosi’s lips moving and could marvel at how she manipulated his strings.
Now Carnahan rushes to the microphone to get in line to decry the evil AIG management that paid out bonuses, and to cosponsor a bill to try to impose a 90% tax on them. The problem is, he voted for the provision in a bill that just had to be rushed through before the public could get wind of what it conatained.
Senator Chris Dodd, who inserted the language specifically allowing the bonus payments (and the biggest recipient of AIG campaign funds, slightly ahead of Barack Obama), first denied knowledge of the provision, then claimed that he never understood that it would actually allow for AIG bonus payments. Treasury Secretary Geithner, who claims to have known nothing before this week, suddenly appears on video tape answering comnittee questions about the upcoming payments nearly three weeks ago.
These actions represent everything that many Americans find reprehensible about Congress and the government in general.
We in Missouri can do nothing about Mr. Dodd. Maybe the good citizens of Connecticut will fire him when he runs for a sixth term next year. In the meantime, we have the opportunity to throw Mr. Carnahan out on the curb next year. We should not miss the chance to do so.

This is the most ironic line delivered last night:
“We know that an economy built on reckless speculation, inflated home prices, and MAXED-OUT credit cards does not create lasting wealth. It creates the illusion of prosperity, and it’s endangered us all.”
Does the Prez not understand that his budget more than “MAXES” out the credit card? Does he not understand that nearly every one of his “programs” goes on the credit card?
Not very smart, Mr. President. Someday, credit card bills come due.
Even the people across the big pond can see how “The Messiah” is SCREWED UP

thank you very much
“. . A day after his government collapsed because of a parliamentary vote of no-confidence . .”
.
Why should we take advice from a failed government official?
Republicans do have short memories.
Sad part is, Democrats memory isn’t any better and they are the ones running the show right now.

” very smart, Mr. President. Someday, credit card bills come due.’
.
you conveniently omit the part about reducing the deficit to half by the end of his first term and that most of the bickering is about the deficit in the out years, beyond 5?. Not much disagreement about his expectations to cut the deficit to half by 2011.

Tough questions - Great responses with in depth answers - answer to the stem cell question shows why this guy is likely to become one of our greatest. A planner, a thinker, a doer that is persistent and stays focused.
bush/cheney and the neo-cons left President Obama a mess…
a $1.2 trillion deficit…
how ya gonna spin that, lunatic?
the neo-cons left an economy that was evolving from a recession into a depression…
less income for the working middle class so naturally less demand from consumers…
the slowing down of the real estate market…
a financial meltdown that is now global that has brought multibillion-dollar corporations to their knees…
and let’s not forget Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, North Korea and the Mexican drug war.
now the neo-cons and their followers…
have criticized President Obama for doing too much.
maybe…
just maybe…
he wouldn’t have to fix so many problems if the bush administration hadn’t created so many problems.
President Obama is trying to handle this urgent crisis while also trying to lay the foundation for our economies long-term growth…
the neo-cons are doing nothing…
they have no plan to stop the job losses…
or to get this countries financial institutions back on track…
they have no plans for health care…
education…
or energy.
all the ideas and thoughts…
are coming from the Democrats…
where are the repuplikans?
doing nothing but complaining…
denying…
delaying…
denouncing.
unless the neo-cons come up with an alternative plan…
they have no right to hinder our the president.
STL,
Do your own research! I fail to realize how a this years bill that BHO signed in haste isn’t his. Again, the Obama lies are acceptable to you, I got it. If I recall, btw, he signed it within hours after passege behind closed doors. Hardly the 5 days promised, much less 48 hours. Obama is an untrained executive who never met a payroll, and a small majority voted him in. His agenda will ruin this country/world and now the world is recognizing this fiasco.

Stl or bean, which ever name he uses, and other libs on these boards, have their heads so far up Their Messiah’s ass, they are unable to see daylight.
If Their Messiah ever farts, what ever brains they have, will be blown away.
We did try the liberals ideas. They were in charge of congress for 2007 and 2008, remember? And they were in change of all the oversite of the financial and banking sector at that time too. All these big bank and finacial big wigs are now having to testfy before all these congressional committees, who by the way were in change that of oversite in 2007 and 2008.
How are the liberal congressional solutions and oversite from 2007 and 2008 working for us in 2009?
Not trying to pass the buck to liberals, just trying to make sure they take their big bite of the dung burger they are trying to make us all eat. Hey, they helped make it, they helped cook it, least they can do is enjoy the meal with the rest of us!!
