More fall-out from rush to pass stimulus bill

Once more we see more fallout from the the ill-advised rush to produce a so-called stimulus bill.

When Congressman Russ Carnahan gave his “state of the District address” at the Affton firehouse, it was clear that he was absolutely clueless. He read a text that he obviously had not written, and apparently had never bothered to read. He was unable to answer any questions coherently, and the entire theme of his talk was that we might not know what we’re doing, but we’d better do it fast.

During Mr. Carnahan’s speech in Affton, one could actually see Nancy Pelosi’s lips moving and could marvel at how she manipulated his strings.

Now Carnahan rushes to the microphone to get in line to decry the evil AIG management that paid out bonuses, and to cosponsor a bill to try to impose a 90% tax on them. The problem is, he voted for the provision in a bill that just had to be rushed through before the public could get wind of what it conatained.

Senator Chris Dodd, who inserted the language specifically allowing the bonus payments (and the biggest recipient of AIG campaign funds, slightly ahead of Barack Obama), first denied knowledge of the provision, then claimed that he never understood that it would actually allow for AIG bonus payments. Treasury Secretary Geithner, who claims to have known nothing before this week, suddenly appears on video tape answering comnittee questions about the upcoming payments nearly three weeks ago.

These actions represent everything that many Americans find reprehensible about Congress and the government in general.

We in Missouri can do nothing about Mr. Dodd. Maybe the good citizens of Connecticut will fire him when he runs for a sixth term next year. In the meantime, we have the opportunity to throw Mr. Carnahan out on the curb next year. We should not miss the chance to do so.

The libs do care. That is why we are trying to keep conservatives like you from running the country into the ground like your policies have the past 8 years.

Geithner and Bernanke are to be “scolded” by congress today. Whoopee. I can hear Barney Fwank now, “No recess this afternoon for you two boys,”.
What a joke! They didn’t even commit any crimes, that’s the funny thing.
So, it must be an attempt to cover up either ignorance or stupidity. They wanted to hook up AIG in particular, hmmmmmmm, they inserted bonus language, hmmmmm, BHO signed it into law. (Dodd ammend). They all claimed to know nothing of bonuses, all changed their tunes when recorded records said different and the blame game began. Hope and change is changing to scandal and rage.

Oh sure Bob, put the blame on conservatives.

Obama just about killed the stock market. It did rebound a little yesterday, since he didn’t open his mouth.

Obama wants to seize some firms. Sounds like socialism and Chavez.

Obama wants Cap and Trade to take more money out of our pockets because of a left wing liberal friggin’ HOAX. Global warming.

Obama wants the upper 2% of tax payers to pay for the other 98% of the country. Won’t work and you know it.

Obama wants to increase the welfare state, for the lazy liberals.

Obama wants unfettered abortions, including infaticide.

Obama said NO lobbyists in his administration. Lie, at least a dozen.

Obama said NO earmarks in budgets. Lie, 8700 of them.

Obama said he would go over a bill line by line. Lie, didn’t even read it.

Obama said he would have a final bill posted on the net for 5 days. Lie, not even 48 hours.

Bob, should I keep listing his damn lies and his desires to socialize this country? If this is straightening out the country, I would hate to see a march for complete control control of the citizesns and businesses, and further destruction of our economy.

Liberals make me want to PUKE.

magnum, you are right on the money. The Kenyan promised his Socialist followers that he was going to have a gov’t “for the people, by the people” but he’s just creating a gov’t for the peons and governed by the ruling class.

To defend Osama Hussein’s policies shows just how out of touch from reality these people are, especially after all of the lies he’s told already.

This guy tried to warn you.

Stanford Everhart, a Democratic opposition research firm hired by 3rd Congressional District candidate Steve Stoll, uses a blog to discuss their candidates’ races and promote Democratic causes. Unlike most firms, whose websites are password-protected and accessible only to clients, Stanford Everhart chose to make their blog available to the public. The blog has been none too kind in their description of Russ Carnahan, repeatedly tagging “The Fire’s” dimmest ember as a “lightweight doofus.”

The topic means nothing to you regulars here. The Left blames the right and the right blames the left. Each trying to outdo the other in their insults. I hear better arguments from 4th graders. If you all think that only one party is to blame here then you’re all kool-aid drinkers and years from now you’ll all be in the exact same place. There has to be some comon ground here with everyone so mad. I personally believe NO incumbent should be re-elected for a long long time until Govt. starts to work for us instead of see what they can get away with.

Socoboy
Got too agree one hundred percent. I have been reading here a few months now. There are already rants and raves by the extremest on both sides I do not even read any more, because you know what they will say just by looking at the name. If we can not begin to have discussions about the merits of Ideas instead of the lame name calling and finger pointing then
I will not be reading here very much longer.

“DETAILS THE ‘TEA PARTIES’ OVERLOOK…. I’d kind of forgotten about it, but apparently, far-right activists continue to organize “Tea Party” rallies and talk about “Going Galt.” It’s a little right-wing fad that hasn’t quite gone away, as evidenced by this Orlando get together over the weekend. A local radio host, who helped make the event happen, called it a historic gathering of 4,000 “God-fearing patriots.”

Reading over some of the quotes from attendees, one starts to get a sense of what’s bothering these folks. For example, they don’t like government spending. Or deficits. Or stimulus efforts. Some wanted to argue that Bush isn’t to blame for the economic crisis. Others wanted to see the Federal Reserve eliminated altogether.

Perhaps the most striking quote came from a local man who’d recently lost his job at an electrical-equipment company. He wants to see the federal government spend less on economic recovery and focus more on “my grandchildren’s money.”

Oh my.

Outside the Beltway’s Alex Knapp, a libertarian, took a look at some of these events and came up with some important observations. Knapp noted, for example, the fact that most “Tea Party” participants will get a tax cut from Obama, so it’s kind of difficult to believe them when they say they feel put upon. For that matter, “Tea Party” cheerleaders didn’t mind excessive government spending when it was going to an unnecessary war in Iraq. He concluded:

Let’s call the “tea party” and “going Galt” nonsense what it is: unprincipled partisan hackery. If these were truly principled protests, they’d have been around all through the Bush and Republican-controlled Congress years, too.

Quite right. It’s no doubt inconvenient for this crowd, but a Republican Congress and Republican White House worked together to increase the debt by $5 trillion, expand the size of government, increase spending, increase the tax burden on the middle class, and expand the powers of the executive to undermine civil liberties. The some people attending “Tea Parties” not only cheered these GOP policymakers on, but voted to keep them in office as long as possible. (Indeed, many condemned those who disagreed, accusing liberals of “treason” for failing to support elected leaders during a crisis.)

Literally just two months into a Democratic administration, far-right activists are now holding public protests? They’re mad about deficits and a loss of “liberty”?

I almost feel sorry for the folks who get conned into believing this nonsense.”

SoCoBoy, there will be no common ground during the Obama Administration. Thus far, he has been divisive in his actions. From no transparency in the stimulus rollout to no transparency with his so-called “blue-ribbon” economic advisory board who meet in private, his handling of the economy has been a one-sided, liberal mess. He works no weekends, has cocktail parties every Wednesday night, goes on Leno, and plans his NCAA picks in the White House Map Room. This President is way over his head.

The fall-out from the rush to pass the stimulus bill will continue. These same idiots who voted for the bill didn’t read the part that said that AIG Excecutives will be getting their bonuses…so they have to go back and pass a bill to get the money back. What else do you think they missed?? Plenty..and we’ll see that as the days continue.

You liberals have no plan but to pump trillions of dollars into your own social programs..hoping that 2 million jobs or more will be created. What you fail to see is that your own paycheck may increase by $18 initally but will take a huge hit in the coming years due to your ignorance of how the economy works or what is hidden in the “stimulus” bill. Check out how much money we’ll all be paying when Cap and Trade is in full force.

Yep..the rush to pass the stimulus bill will have repercutions for many years to come.
