More fall-out from rush to pass stimulus bill

Once more we see more fallout from the the ill-advised rush to produce a so-called stimulus bill.

When Congressman Russ Carnahan gave his “state of the District address” at the Affton firehouse, it was clear that he was absolutely clueless. He read a text that he obviously had not written, and apparently had never bothered to read. He was unable to answer any questions coherently, and the entire theme of his talk was that we might not know what we’re doing, but we’d better do it fast.

During Mr. Carnahan’s speech in Affton, one could actually see Nancy Pelosi’s lips moving and could marvel at how she manipulated his strings.

Now Carnahan rushes to the microphone to get in line to decry the evil AIG management that paid out bonuses, and to cosponsor a bill to try to impose a 90% tax on them. The problem is, he voted for the provision in a bill that just had to be rushed through before the public could get wind of what it conatained.

Senator Chris Dodd, who inserted the language specifically allowing the bonus payments (and the biggest recipient of AIG campaign funds, slightly ahead of Barack Obama), first denied knowledge of the provision, then claimed that he never understood that it would actually allow for AIG bonus payments. Treasury Secretary Geithner, who claims to have known nothing before this week, suddenly appears on video tape answering comnittee questions about the upcoming payments nearly three weeks ago.

These actions represent everything that many Americans find reprehensible about Congress and the government in general.

We in Missouri can do nothing about Mr. Dodd. Maybe the good citizens of Connecticut will fire him when he runs for a sixth term next year. In the meantime, we have the opportunity to throw Mr. Carnahan out on the curb next year. We should not miss the chance to do so.

“It started in January 07, when the dems took control of congress. Do your homework.”
.
Nope
It started when taxes were significantly reduced and spending skyrocketed
It looked like a free lunch for several years, then the roof caved in and here we are today.
Simple, very simple.

I still say d**it, that this sh** took longer than 2 years to get this far in debt. Remember the WAR, that your illustrius repub spent money on over a lie. You can say what you want to, but it took a long time to get us in this mess, and it will take a long time to get out. Keep telling the same lie, I am sure someone might believe you.

It took Obama a stroke of a pen to spend 2.5 trillion. Thats the cost over 4 years. It wasn’t that hard for that idiot. Do your homework.

“100% WRONG”
.
Nope. 100% correct. No fuzz.
$5Trillion, 83%, added to our national debt when GWB was President.
o Result of deficit spending + the off budget Iraq war.
- Deficit spending was the result of lower taxes and huge increases in spending.
o It looked like a free lunch for several years, then the roof caved in and here we are today.

Which stroke would that be?
I remember one stroke for about $800 Billion, the stimulus bill
I think spending $2.5 trillion over 4 years with one stroke would make the news.
Maybe I missed it?
What was it?

STL,
None yet. BHO is pushing a 3.2t budget this eve. That alone will bring defeceits of over 9T over the next decade if left unchecked. Add porky the stimulus and the infamous omnibous,,,,he is doubling the spending of GWB.And believe me, conservatives complained about his spending. Some economists are also sayin that the Trillion dollar Treasury plan will indeed come to about 2.5 million. You may do your own research to rebutt, I don’t do links.

My hunch was that the poster was extrapolating proposals with signed spending bills to hype an agenda. It’s likely Obama’s proposal will be used as a framework for the House of Representative to start defining the appropriations bill for next year. Whatever passes there is usually different that the Senate version so there is the committee compromise dance then approval by the Congress. What’s signed is sent to the President. So we’re a long way from a $3.2Trillion budget and probably infinity away from Obama getting everything he proposed.

The omnibus bill is not Obama’s except as relating to the time he was in the Senate. You probably won’t like this but it truly was last years business held over for signature by this years President.

STL,
The omnibus is indeed BHO’s. He could have used veto, he signed it, he owns it. Last years business as far as the President is concerned ended the day he was sworn in. The congress made a decision after election day to not push the bill for fy09. To say BHO doesn’t own it is factually wrong, again, he signed it without the promised review and promised stripping of earmarks. Repulicans aren’t exhonerated from earmarks either.

Bob

Where are youuuuu?

One more time.

How can 25% of the hghest paid citizens of the USA support the other 75%?
Also, the same 25% of the highest paid citizens that support the other 75% of us, will be expected to pay for all the foeign aid we give away, so how will they do this along with 75% of us?

Come on Bob, use some of that liberal fuzzy math your so proud of.
