Perhaps Obama should stick to one thing at a time
In the six weeks or so since Barack Obama has taken office, he convinced the House and Senate to come up with the stimulus bill he proposed during his campaign. He is attempting to introduce a national health care program while provide money to failing businesses, banks, and car manufacturers.
He is attempting to put people back to work through his programs, end an unpopular war in Iraq while placing our military in another no win situation in Afghanistan.
You would think he would devote his time and effort to one item on his agenda, make it work, and prove to the people he was the right choice and they made the right decision at the polls. But he wants to go as fast as he can, giving deadlines in order to institute his policies and ideas before one has shown one is making a difference.
He’s in office for four years, what’s the hurry? Take on one thing at a time, make it work and move on to the next thing on his list. Instead of going to basketball games, do what you were elected to do.

Jim,
I am a total supporter of Obama and also helped with his campaign locally.
Your letter does make a good point. The stimulus had to be done in a hurry, but other issues do not have to happen right now.
Health Care needs to be carefully thought out and put in place RIGHT the first time.
Is the Basketball Games that you speak of his daughter Sasha’s? Nothing wrong with wanting to attend your child’s game although Obama acknowledged how it was very inconvienent for the other attendes with the Secret Service invading.
I also agree with you on Afganistan and that it is ANOTHER no win situation. History tells us so! Hope that he knows what he is doing and has the best/knowledgable advisors in the world. Tread lightly and plan an entrance and exit before increasing troop levels there. Have a mission and get in and out as quickly as possible. We do not need another 3,000 coming home in body bags, or thousands damaged mentally and physically.
Good letter Jim!
debra - do you know what has happened to the Code Pink anti-war protestors ever since Obama took office? In fact, what has happened to all the anti-war protestors since Obama took office? I thought we would be out of the war zones by now.
“… what’s the hurry? Take on one thing at a time…”
This is reminicent of when John McCain tried to postpone the first debate with Obama because he had to focus all his attention on passing Bush’s $700 Billion bailout package. I wrote it off to severe cognitive dissonance issues. The prevailing opinion among most economists is that the economy needs immediate attention and all of the issues you mentioned are interrelated. So he really doesn’t have the luxury of devoting all his attention to merely one aspect of the problem. As you can see we are very fortunate that Obama won the election instead of McCain.
Centrist- “I thought we would be out of the war zones by now.” It seems to me that the President is following his campaign statements remarkably well. He has ordered all combat troops out of Iraq in 16 months and he is taking the war to the Taliban in Afghanistan. I to worry that Afghanastan is a problem but he is doing exactly what he said he would do during the campaign.
Smith, you must have missed this:
Economists Give Obama Low MarksReuters

A(March 12) – President Barack Obama and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner received failing grades for their efforts to revive the world’s largest economy, according to participants in the latest Wall Street Journal forecasting survey.
A majority of the 49 economists polled said they were dissatisfied with the administration’s economic policies, according to the paper, a stark contrast to Obama’s popularity ratings with the general public.
On average, the economists gave the president a grade of 59 out of 100, and although there was a broad range of marks, 42 percent of respondents rated Obama below 60, the paper said.
debrasgd3,
No, not his daughters games, professional games.
No father should miss any of his kids extra curricular activities. Like him and his policies or not.
Centrist-
Tell the whole story. The dissatisfaction with Obama by leading economists is that the stimulus package was too SMAll! How does that work with your republican agenda?
I think the war protestors have taken a break because of Obama’s campaign promises to bring the troops home. With McCain’s wishes to keep fighting in Iraq until we win was one of his biggiest mistakes. Americans realize what a mistake invading Iraq was and want it to end. Since Obama won by a landslide I guess the protestors no longer feel a need engage. Just my opinion of course and do not know for sure where they went.
