Let the auto companies declare bankruptcy while they can

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

I’m singing “Sixteen Tons another day older and deeper in debt, I owe my soul to the government and UAW.”

Let the auto companies slide into bankruptcy which would be the logical way to go. With all these enormous loans that is accumulated, this makes it easy pickens for it to be taken advantage of by the government and the UAW.

Is there no stopping the government growing bigger and bigger in every way? How did the bright CEO’s get tangled up in such enormous debts? They did not face facts.

It is, also, time for the government to separate from stocks in a corporation as a government separates itself from religion. Let the auto companies declare bankruptcy while they are still in one piece.

I am watching Obama give his address and he says he wants the government out of the auto industry as soon as possible, and I believe him. Why would he lie, he is our president. My dad is in the UAW, he is retired and gets paid more than the guys currently on the line who work 30 hrs/week. This is what they work for, so they can retire and hang out. Don’t degrade the UAW, they are not the reason for the car companies going out of business. It is not fair that anyone in the UAW should give anything up, even in this bad terrible economy, no matter what. The UAW has given so much to the democratic party and now it is time for payback. A recession and lower car sales should not get in the way of that. The reason people aren’t buying cars is not because they fear they are going to get taxed into oblivion in a couple years, it is because the american car companies have not been producing the cars people want, which are hybrids and smart cars. The only reason people buy Hummers is because there have been no smart cars available. People don’t want SUVs anymore, why drive one when all it is going to do is destroy the earth and fry the icebergs in a couple years? Smart cars, small cars and hybrids are the answer and this is going to be the slant of the car companies in the next couple years after Obama makes it right. I talked to a soccer mom the other day who has 5 kids, she had a big old suburban and I asked her why she drives it? She says that there were no smart cars when she bought it. Now that there are smart cars she is going to trade the suburban in and get one. She states she thinks she can fit all her 5 kids into it and feels alot better now that she is going green. SUVs, especially the cadillacs and lincolns, have been a sign of wealth. This is not how it is going to be in the decade to come, smart cars will be “in”.

Here’s a nice little story for “the lunatic”…

How did the crew of the Maersk Alabama, the freighter that was hijacked by pirates off the coast of Somalia, find the strength to make it through their hostage ordeal?

Alabama engineer John Cronan had a simple answer when NBC’s Today Show asked him that question on his return to the U.S.: “WE’RE UNION MEMBERS. We stuck together, and we did our jobs.”

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/04/24/shane-murphy-freed-pirate_n_191290.html

Shane Murphy, second-in-command aboard the ship seized by Somali pirates this month, is happy to be home. But he’s not happy to be sharing turf with land-lubber Rush Limbaugh, who politicized the pirate affair by referring to the pirates as “black teenagers.”

“It feels great to be home,” said Murphy in an interview with WCBV in Boston. “It feels like everyone around here has my back, with the exception of Rush Limbaugh, who is trying to make this into a race issue…that’s disgusting.”

Limbaugh made the remark to suggest why President obama might have appeared preoccupied at church on the day of the operation to rescue the ship’s captain, who was taken hostage by the pirates until Navy SEAL snipers shot them in a daring rescue effort.

“He was worried about the order he had given to wipe out three teenagers on the high seas,” Limbaugh said. “Black Muslim teenagers.”

“You gotta get with us or against us here, Rush,” Murphy said.

“THE PRESIDENT DID THE RIGHT THING…It’s a war…. It’s about good versus evil. And what you said is evil. It’s hate speech. I won’t tolerate it.”

have a nice day…

especially all you ‘20 %ers’ out there who shamefully call yourselves a “repuplikan”.

llbean,
Sounds like you are the one spweing the hate! There was about a 6 point spread in the general election, 47/53. That’s almost half, so not sure why you keep referencing 20%. Just because an individual says he or she isn’t a republican does not mean that they are affiliating with the democrat party. Time for a third party, the conservative party. So, are you saying that almost half of the voting public should not have a voice? As far as the auto industry, the writing was on the wall. After all the wasted bailout money, it looks like bankruptcy anyways.

bush/cheney and the neo-cons did that to us from 2000-2006…

and look at the mess they created…

where did it get them?

repuplikans voted out of office.

i sincerely hope you neo-cons keep throwing the moderates out of the repuplikan party…

that would help us all out.

please…please…please keep it up!

no comment on the UNION workers sticking together, huh?

didn’t think any of you anti-worker, hater of unions, detester of the middle class neo-cons would.

Beanbrain is right. There is absolutely no way that the crew of the Maersk could have survived their ordeal without paying union dues. Never in the history of the world have people overcome dicey situations without a union card.

What a freaking tool….

I did not comment on this thread, I did not post under “dr debunk or gamecock or were screwed” and see no reason why you choose to violate STLtoday terms of service by including my name in your comments. Since I’m on here, organized labor parasites add nothing to the value of a product, they just leach on the unfortunate customers of their employer.

You sir, are not an outdoorsman clothier as your name implies, you are an unwashed, (my Spanish needs some brushing up so I’ll say it phonetically) “pen day hoe” of a Mexican crib house occupant.

llbean,
“didn’t think any of you anti-worker, hater of unions, detester of the middle class neo-cons would.”

I am not any of these things. Because I have conservative values makes me neocon, anti worker, screw the midde class??? I posted a fairly non viscious post and got a typical hate one in return. Classic

to the ‘unknowing sage’-’dr debunk’-’gamecock’-’were screwed’-I can’t keep up with all the other names you’re posting under)…

all of you-thanks for your input…

just because you’re a bitter, sour, lonely, without-a-friend-in-the world, ex-foreman…

of union WORKERS…

I’ll take the bait and comment on your most resent drivel…

unions only helped to build the middle class of this country…

which help make our country great…

no one, not even the ‘unkowing sage’-that’s the name you’re using now, right?…

can deny that.

they also help to raise wages…

FOR EVERYONE…

even their parasite foremen…
