Let’s protect our kids from all sex offenders

The opportunity to safeguard our state’s children from pedophiles and sex abusers in the school districts should not be a topic for debate, but rather embraced as a rock solid tenet of a civilized society.

However, SB-41 (The Amy Hestir Student Production Act), that was sponsored by Sen. Jane Cunningham, R-Chesterfield, and designed to ensure the safety of our children in public schools, is being stalled in the State’s Education Department by Chairperson, Sen. Rob Mayer. Why? Who is Sen. Mayer protecting from these unthinkable and barbaric acts?

Ms. Hestir courageously told lawmakers in March about how she was raped by a junior high teacher in Moberly for two years starting when she was merely 12 years old. She is now 41. No criminal charges were filed, and the assailant remains a teacher in a Missouri school district in another city.

The sad fact is, there are numerous cases in Missouri that are similar to Ms. Hestir’s. Independent counselors and clergy are only too aware of these past and current incidents. But little or nothing has been done. Lives are destroyed at the hands of these perverted district employees, and a blind eye is being turned. Typically these allegations are being swept under the carpets in the administrators’ offices.

Missouri must implement proven methods that halt or thwart these type of incidents. Those standards provide by law that students can alert a trusted teacher or counselor, who in turn is obligated to report details to law enforcement and a thorough, unbiased investigation is conducted. In addition, state law must ensure that thorough background checks on all educators in public schools MUST be conducted, and offenders MUST be prosecuted.

Oppression and intimidation by power brokers must stop, or Missouri will forever be the laughing stock of America as just another backward state, that is no better than third world countries. No longer will administrators, with hidden agendas, be allowed to interfere with due process of law to prevent sexual abuse by predators on student populations.

This bill (SB-41) is too serious to ignore, and Sen. Mayer needs to face the public that has entrusted him to oversee the safety and quality education of our children. True, you cannot legislate morals, but you CAN prevent sexual abuse of children in public schools.

Legislators who fail the trust of our children and put them at risk at the hands of predators need not seek re-election.

Normally, the Democrats and the ACLU are the problem in giving these sickies a second chance. If you are a pedophile, the I will give you a choice. Do you prefer hanging, shot, or how about a nice slash of the throat. As long as you end up at room temperature then I will be pleased. There is NO excuse for abusing a child, NONE!

Linda,

I went to senate.mo.gov and researched the SB41 to attempt to track the bill. Only states all actions taken and they ended in March, 2009.

I also looked up Senator Rob Mayer (R) District 25 counties of Butler, Dunklin, New Matrid, Pemiscot, Ripley, Stoddard and Wayne. His home address is Dexter, MO. Sounds like the boot heel area.

The Bill repeals the current 20 year statue of limitations for the prosecution of unlawful sexual offenses involving a person 18 years of age or younger. This would of allowed Ms. Heister justice.

Rob Mayer should get off the pot and get this passed.

Not sure why he is holding it up!

Why is it that these sick people are still allolwed in public around children? I believe if you are a sex offender you should get life in prison due to the fact you ruined someone elses.

Superdave is right. If you abuse a child then superdave should get to kill you. If ifvyou get in a drunk driving accident then superdave should get to kill you. If you rob a house where there are children then superdave should get to kill you.

“Normally, the Democrats and the ACLU are the problem in giving these sickies a second chance.”

Let’s not forget the Catholic Church that supports Republicans.

Bill

Do a little research on “Jessica’s Law”, and look at what states haven’t passed it.

If you abuse a child and are convicted, I agree, put them in the ground. One child sex offender that will never offend again.

If you get in a drunk driving accident where you kill someone and are convicted. You don’t deserve a chance to repeat.

If you rob a house with or without children, the home owner should shoot you dead on the spot just for breaking into the home.

Criminals in this country are treated better than their victims. This is wrong.

Superdave

Any sane person would agree that a pedophile should not be placed in a position that would allow them a chance to repeat their crime. There is a distinct difference between a pedophile and people who violate other sex laws. A pedophile is preying on the part of society that is most vulnerable.

With that said let us now turn to Superdaves irrational rants, obviously he did no research before losing his mind.

In response to debrasgd13 he wrote:

I was suspicious because in the letter it mentioned that Mayer was a committee chairman, those go to the party in power and the Republicans control the Senate. Sure enough when I checked Mayer out on-line Mayer was a Republican, but then it was to simple for Superdave to do and it did not fit into his view of the world so why look for facts.

So Superdave we say to why the bill is held up: Isn’t it always Republicans. Why is that?

Now lets ask him were the ACLU has helped the pedophiles? After he did extensive research on the party to which Mayer belongs I am sure that he did the same with his other comments.

I know the ACLU is not the darling of the right wing. However, when Limbaugh was caught bringing drugs into the US in the wrong container he dod not scream for the ACLU to go away when they filed an Amicus on his behalf.

Lets look at a few other items the ACLU did that scandalizes the right wing.

1) If you are accused of a crime I suppose you expect you expect to have an attorney? Of course that is only within the last 50 years you could be assured of having one in other than capital murder cases. Before that those that could not afford one were expected to apply their in depth knowledge of the law to defend themselves.

2) Do you expect an attorney to help you in the pretrial motions? After all those can make or break your case. This was granted in just the past 45 years.

3) How about if the police just show up and demand the right to search your house, should they be allowed? Protection against that is only a guarantee for the last 40 years, as well as the penalty for violating the persons home.

4) Of course everyone knows that they have the right to an attorney. But for the people who do not understand this the right now needs to be explained to you before you get yourself into trouble. That right is only 35 years old.

5) Here is one that I am sure the right wing will like since they are convinced that we are headed toward a socialist state the cuts out dissenting views. The ACLU 30 years ago filed to allow a organizations that did not hold the popular view or the view of the government to march in defense of their view.

Are all cases the ACLU takes on the correct side of the issue? Probably not. However, the same can be said for the right wing organizations. However we would not have many of the rights we have if someone had not stood up in protest to government policy. In may of those cases it was the ACLU.

However, we could not expect superdave to research this because he has preordained his view and does not care about the facts.

Tell us one more time superdave which party your research shwed Mayer belonging to, I am sure you did the research before making your comment.
