Letterman went beyond rules of good taste
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
David Letterman went way beyond the rules of good taste when he attempted to villify Sarah Palin through a crude joke involving her daughter. His crude language using the term “Knocked Up” was highly offensive.(Even though he himself was guilty of getting his unmarried “friend” Knocked up). Then he made the matter worse by trying to make a dunb witted joke in his apology. He and other left wingers must be really frightened by Sarah Palin. They continue to hammer her even though she is out of the national spotlight.David will always be a second rate comedian. He tries to compete with the big dogs by cracking crude, dumb witted jokes that appeal to the grimy crude side of society.

Love David. Palin and her dysfunctional family deserve every shot they get.If your going to use your kids as a prop you better be ready for the pushback. BTW…100% of “liberals” want Caribou Barbie to be the Rushpubliklans nominee.
How about Rush & McCain , do they get a free pass ?

On this Week in Washington I saw the piece with Letterman. I agree that he went beyond good taste and on top of it that joke made no sense.
Letterman should have gone further than he did to apologize.
Nothing changes the fact that Mr. Letterman told a joke that was flawed–worse things have happened. Expect another serious mea culpa tonight (June 15th). However I must take issue with your statement that “she is out of the national spotlight.” I’m sure she would also; after all she has milked a one-day story into a one-week story. She will always be a second rate politician and I heartily endorse her for the Republican Presidential candidacy in 2012.
If Letterman wants this issue to go away, he needs to simplify his statements. Once again, he made a backhanded apology, claiming his joke was actually aimed at the 18-year-old daughter instead of the 14-year-old. Not smart. He admits the joke is offensive, then tries to justify it by changing the target. That’s not an apology, that’s a cop-out.
Dave, just admit the joke was in poor taste, shouldn’t have been made, and let it go.

Just as you will always be a second rate blogger. I also endorse her for the Presidential candidacy for 2012 althou8gh not as a republican but as a conservative (Republicans are no longer conservative, they are simply democrat [read liberal] light).
Letterman is an a$$h*le. Always has been and always will be.
myomy,
You inadvertently backed into the truth with your warped comments. The reason Letterman made his stupid joke re the Palin girl is because, like most warped individuals, he has contempt for people he disagrees with. Since Sarah Palin couldn’t possibly be as important as a sophisticated New Yorker, even her offspring are fair game for the most vile comments.
According to your sick calculation, President Obama’s children would also “deserve every shot they get”. After all, they’re just “props”, right?
Didn’t President Obama say his wife and. kids were off limits? My, what a double standard. A smart, intelligent woman who worked her way to Gov. and she gets crapped on for having everyday household issues and happens to be conservative. As far as Letterman; at least he apologized. That’s more than the MSM did for their treatment of Gov. Palin.
Letterman is a jerk but, when Jamie Lynn Spears had a baby out of wedlock at 16, the far right yobbo yappers went off their rockes blaming the horrible parents, permissive upbringing and all the rest of their far more offensive comments than Letterman. Shaddup! If a Democrastic candidate had a kid who had a kid out of wedlock, the far right wing fascist corporatist Brown Shirt weblog echochambering yobbo yappers of the GOP would have spastic fits for etenity condemning the camndidate, and now call it a “normal domestic occurrence” when one of their own does it. Puhleese!
Bud–
Is that why Rush called Chelsea the White House Dog when she was 13 ? Or was it because her dad was a liberal ?
