Our medical care shouldn’t be handled by someone looking for profits

I am somewhat confused, by his letter published on May 26th, as to why Edward Plitt would go to the post office for medical treatment. Seriously though, as one of the people that Mr. Plitt spoke of who favors a single payer health insurance system, I must say there are good reasons for such a health insurance system. U.S. citizens pay much more per person for our health care than any other industrialized country, yet the care we receive is ranked far behind many less industrialized countries. We also have many people not covered by health insurance, where as there are countries with single payer who insure all their people for less per person than we cover a portion. As for how treatment is administered, under single payer medical personnel could concentrate on the job for which they have been trained with out concern for a myriad of billing procedures and restrictions. This should enhance care rather than degrade it.

One other thing I believe is that our medical care should not be controlled by an entity which makes more profit by delaying or denying care to it’s customers. I believe it is more than some people who favor single payer system.

Wait for it…wait for it…

Here come the straw man arguments from the right wing about Canadians and Great Britons that had to wait days upon days for life saving surgeries…or who opted to have teeth pulled instead of waiting months for a dental appointment.

Outside of that, why would anyone support for-profit insurance companies when it comes to health care reform? Right wingers talk about government bureaucrats making health decisions, which wouldn’t happen, as opposed to clerks barely making above minimum wage in a call center who approve/deny care based on a matrix they have in front of them?

The one system isn’t working, might as well try the other.

What is wrong with both systems? If some citizens would like to pay for government care, by all means, let them. And they can subsidize everyone else who uses it. If other citizens would like to use private or a more capitolistic approach, so be it. It’s a win win!!

“Our medical care shouldn’t be handled by someone looking for profits”

Right, they should be handled by someone looking for reelection.

WTF? U.S. citizens pay much more per person for our health care than any other industrialized country, yet the care we receive is ranked far behind many less industrialized countries.
Where are the facts that support this?
Why did the Canadian PM go to UCLA for her Cancer Treatment?

Who is doing this ranking?

Health costs are out of line, but thinking we need to be like Europe is nuts. I have been to Europe and needed to go to a hospital in England and in Portugal. Maybe some of you should try it before buying it.

Robert Talbott - Why don’t you set the table? Put yourself throuhg MED School, then treat your patients for no profit and see how you come out with the malpractice lawyers. Cost would come down if the libs would quit relying on lawyers.

The only thing that comes out of profits is hard work. This ain’t right and ain’t the way the country is heading. When you can sit on your azz and get paid the same as working hard, that is what I am talking about. So healthcare should not be run by anyone looking for a profit. That is our problem now, these doctors are working so hard for profit that they make mistakes and that is the only reason they get sued so much. I agree with Showme, our healthcare system sucks compared with other countries, when I get sick I goto Russia or Great Britain. The nonprofit attitude over there makes their care some of the best in the world, the doctors are more relaxed and never get sued. I agree with Carnage, here come the straw man arguments from the wacko right. Like that actress in Canada who died from that brain clot, the right wing wackos think she died because it took her 5 hours to get to a neurosurgeon. The truth was that she wasn’t wearing a helmut and denied the ambulance the first time it came. You can’t fool us right wingers! We have a bunch of illegal immigrants who need healthcare here, where is our compassion, we must change our system.

Heck, I thought I live in the United States where freedom is king. I guess I am mistaken. All you liberals want government for everything. Didn’t the USSR try that? What do you have against competition? The reason health care is more expensive has so little to do with the insurance companies or the health care system. It has so much to do with government regulation. You now have states telling insurance companies what they must provide in benefits. You have trial lawyers standing in line to sue every doctor or drug company they can find so their clients can win the lottery.

Now you have Pravda writing articles laughing at us for our direct run to Marxism. They blame that on the sheeple and the educational system. Now where have I heard that song and dance before…?

What a complete joke. The liberal elitist tell Sheeple what to do and freedom is out the window. We arent slowly going to socialism, we are sprinting for it!

I had to read this several times to make sure that was what he actually wrote, but it was!

On behalf of civilization, bravo, we are screwed, for a sophisticated and balanced analysis of health care as it relates to the socioeconomic problems of our time.

At first, I wasn’t sure I understood your point until I realized I was not quite sophisticated enough to understand it alone, but with some help from an econ prof and an MBA, I grasp its complex beauty! Beautiful! You are truly the Einstein of public policy!

It does not take an Einstein, to figure out where this country is headed. If it took and MBA and an econ professor to explain it to you, your in a world of hurt, along with the rest of your liberal persuasion. Socialism here we come.

Looney doesn’t have any problems letting our wars be decided by someone seeking re-election.

Medicare, the publicly mananged plan for the elderly spends 5% of each health care dollar on administrative expenses, compared to 17% devourered by private insurers. Private companies spend billions on marketing, billions in exorbitant salaries to executives, and hundreds of billions peddled into profits and company reserves.

Is it any wonder the Corporate Republican Party loves this healthcare system?
Oh, did I mention an estimated 20,000 Americans die every year because they lack health insurance…

How many more sick children must die…pro-lifers?
Talk to me about your moral “high-road”.
Your Republican votes contributes to the destruction of human life.

“Medicare, the publicly mananged plan for the elderly spends 5% of each health care dollar on administrative expenses, compared to 17%”

Two things:
1) Medicare may only spend 5% on admin, but its still in the red. It spends money it does not have really well!
2) The only thing worse than medical care being handled by someone looking for profits is medical care being handled by someone looking for votes!

Just look at the actual numbers of the so called uninsured. I think the number is around 44 million. Now, how many of those young adults choose not to get coverage? How many children are SCHIP eligible but have moron parent who won’t enroll them? How may adult working families simply don’t get coverage they can afford? How many of the 44m are illeagl? The list goes on. I think we have somewhere between 10-12M who have legit needs. That is much more manageable than 44 million. Look it up libs.

Answer: About the same as the number of stupid liberals.
