They want us to be distracted

Am I the only one who finds it ridiculous that in light of all the problems we as a country and a world face, we are still fiercely debating the comments of a comedian? People should really take two steps back and look at the big picture. The fact that David Letterman trashed a political figure’s unwed pregnant daughter is news? Get serious. In the age of pedophile priests, gang warfare, corrupt businessman and politicians, the collapse of the American auto industry, a broken healthcare system, and a “war on drugs” that is a complete money siphoning joke, this is what people spend time worrying about? Is it any wonder politicians don’t listen to anybody who doesn’t have a hand in their re election? We have became a distracted nation.

Political figures count on all of us becoming distracted, that’s when they do their dirtiest work. People need to start worrying about important things. Like holding politician’s feet to the fire. And why the price at the pump goes up while the price of a barrel of oil goes down. How does that work? Big oil just loves it when everybody gets distracted by nonsense. Just like a seasoned politician.

Say it ain’t so, Joe…

Wow, hardly know where to begin. How about the fact that this hasn’t been in the “news” for about a week until you brought it up.

Besides the false premise you lay out,[it was the 14 year old un-pregnant daughter, not the 18 year old married and seperated mother] you seem like you are a bit over-wrought with anxiety. Can’t blame you on that point, but please, lose the faux-outrage over the “old news”, and get up to speed on the real problems.

Also try Xanax for anxiety.

Thats funny Joe, do you feel the same when it happens on the other side of the aisle. For some reason I highly doubt it. What a bunch on pathetic whiners! By the way, how come Obama isnt holding the price of oil down? Your side was saying it was Bush’s fault the gas prices were going up so who’s fault is it now?

Hey Bill, what is your obsession with Sarah Palin? Are you people that afraid of her? All your side does is whine and have your hands extended. It’s destroying this nation. So, why dont you get your side off their lazy asses and make them work instead of having the producers pay their way. Oh, I forgot. The Obama Administration is destroying our economy and jobs so you cant get a job. Funny how that works, except this time its not so funny!

Supderdave and Bill, all both sides do is whine and complain about the other. All politicians are scumbags mainly looking out for themselves. Most recent example, the South Carolina governor cheating on his wife and leaving the country without telling anyone. What kind of behavior is that for the head of a state? And he expects to just go back to work? And I’m certainily not just bashing him because he’s Republican. For every screwed up Republican, there’s a Blagoyovich on the other side. Dismissing the Letterman portion of his comment, I’m in full agreement with Joe, that we all need to stop over reacting to the story of the day and focus on actual issues. Vote out politicians that you don’t agree with. Plain and simple. Endless bickering online will not solve anything.

Oh and just because I hate when people get their facts wrong, I have to point out to Dr. Debunk, that the 18 year old was never married and separated. Taken from Fox news, “Levi Johnston and Bristol Palin, the teenage daughter of Gov. Sarah Palin, have broken off their engagement, about 2 1/2 months after the couple had a baby.” Not that it matters, just like to correct errors.

Joe, excellent post, Letterman was referencing the 18 year-old who ‘followed in Mom’s footsteps’ by the way.

Debunk lives with his head up his ass, just ignore him…

THE AD WRITES ITSELF…. For several years, Democratic opposition to blank-check spending bills for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were the single most popular area of attack for Republicans. To vote against “funding the troops,” the GOP said, was to betray the nation and those who wear the uniform. It was the basis for countless speeches, ad campaigns, and attacks.

Whether a lawmaker was fully satisfied with individual provisions in the spending bill was irrelevant — the troops are fighting wars and they need the money. Excuses won’t protect them or give them the resources they need.

In fact, just a year ago, House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) argued, “[T]here is a clear distinction between saying you support the troops and backing up those claims with genuine action. [Obama] once said ‘we shouldn’t play chicken with our troops’ when it comes to funding our troops in harm’s way, and [Hillary Clinton] urged General Petraeus at the start of the surge to request ‘every possible piece of equipment and resource necessary’ to keep our troops safe. These words turned into little more than empty rhetoric when both proceeded to vote against funding our troops last year.”

Last week, of course, the situation was reversed, and it was House Republicans “voting against funding our troops.” This week, the DCCC is unveiling a series of 60-second radio ads targeting seven vulnerable GOP incumbents on their votes. This one, for example, goes after Rep. Lee Terry (R) of Nebraska.

“Around here, we recognize Independence Day with parades … and picnics … maybe a few fireworks.

“But July Fourth is about more than that. It’s about remembering those who fought for our freedoms. And those still fighting today.

“Congressman Lee Terry used to understand that. When George Bush asked, Congressman Terry voted to fully fund our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. And, last year he said, quote, ‘We must give our military every resource it needs.’

“Seems like Congressman Terry is playing politics now. Last month Congressman Terry voted AGAINST funding for those same troops. It’s true: vote number 348 — you can look it up.”

Republicans did make this easy for Dems. Indeed, all the DCCC had to do was pull up the same kind of radio ads Republicans used before and insert GOP names.

As a substantive, policy matter, lawmakers can have completely legitimate reasons for voting against military spending measures, and opposition to these expenditures does not make one an unpatriotic terrorist sympathizer.

But Republicans opened this door. It’s hard to blame Democrats for walking through it.

Even when we’re not be distracted, folks in powers are still operating in the shadows and making sure Joe Public doesn’t know half the stuff that’s going on.

Photos of Lynnie England pointing at Iraqi genitalia is more sensationalistic then Alberto Gonzalez signing the memo that authorizes enhanced interrogation techniques. Both are guilty but the one in the pics gets in trouble.
