Climate change deniers follow typical but strange pattern

Mr. O’Toole’s skeptical letter on global warming follows a typical but strange pattern. He denies that it’s happening and admits that it’s happening (but it’s natural). Let me address his errors. First, global temperatures have NOT cooled in the last decade. Here is what global-warming deniers must do to make this claim (other than outright lying): 1998 was an extremely warm year, so they compare the average temperature of the last ten years to 1998. This allegedly shows that temperatures are cooling. Unfortunately for them, if they select 1997, they must admit that every year since then has been hotter. If they select 1999, they must admit the same thing.  If they choose ANY year on record prior to 1998, they must admit that every year after 2000 has been warmer. Only 1998 works for them.  Scientists use all the data. They don’t pick and choose. As for the increased ice at the South Pole, warmer temperatures have allowed more precipitation to fall in the form of snow. As for climate changing naturally in the past, well, forest fires occur naturally too. That does not mean we don’t cause forest fires. If projections of 5°C warming in this century are realized, we will experience about the same warming that occurred over a 5 thousand year period at the end of the last ice age. That is not natural!

Give me a break will you. You are worse than a woman! Libs love that…watch her take off with that one.

Boob, those who have retired have paid their way. However, those that sit on their butts and do nothing and steal money from other citizen are who I am talking about. Either you are that stupid or just a trouble maker. Either way, it sucks!

Yes Juanita, it might be a real problem. However, even this article in Discover Magazine does nothing but speculate about the past and how the “ice sheets” are melting at an alarming rate. How do scientists know what led up to the last ice age? What melted the last ice age? There were very few carbon emissions produced by man 10,000 years ago - how in the hell did the glaciers covering half of North America melt?

This Climate Change issue is about one thing and one thing only…MONEY. Cap and trade will do NOTHING to thwart the USA, China, India, Russia, the majority of South America from emitting carbon emissions…it only makes money off of the emissions by taxing the corporations emitting carbon dioxide. The corporations pass these costs onto the tax paying consumer and voila! The Obama administration has an endless supply of tax revenue to spend wildly on social programs via the middle and upper middle classes.

This will be the largest fleecing of the American taxpayer in the history of the USA. It’s rigoddamndiculous!

I’m not saying that climate change isn’t happening, I’m just saying that the method of dealing with it is just plain crap. Anyone falling for this “cap and trade” nonsense needs to get his/her head examined. It’s all about Obama and Pelosi getting more money from us to further their socialist agendas.

Gaucho,

–They also didn’t seem to find it reasonable to have anyone in the article that wasn’t a “warmist,” or anyone who was from the other side of the argument. Now maybe they couldn’t find anyone.
–If they had asked Mitch Taylor, the polar bear expert and scientist who was “disinvited” from the recent GW conference, [because his views weren't "helpful"] bet HE would have participated. But then he doesn’t believe in the theory of MMGW.
–Discover is owned by Disney which is owned by ABC, get the “picture”…

Wow Zero dave what language.

So how many years do you need to work to have paid your way? Have you paid your way if you work 30 years at low paying jobs? If so then how many do you need to work if you are a CEO.

What if your unemployed after 33 years of working? What if you are unemployed after 33 years of working, but you have investments.

So a good conservative that is unemployed does not deserve to be considered an owner and a citizen?

It is your rules that we all are trying to understand. So please explain your stupid statement

I am the trouble maker.

YOU ARE THE ONE WHO IS TAKING PEOPLES CITIZENSHIP AWAY.

Last week it was revealed that the EPA refused to include a report by one it its own investigators, a man named Carlin, because said report indicated that the earth is no longer warming, period. But, lets suspend reality, and assume that man made global warming is real. Put this absurd “cap and trade” bill to the test used by many successful businessmen. “How much will it cost, who will pay, and will it work?” Well, we all know it will cost trillions, and you and I and every productive employee and consumer will pay. There is noone else. If you believe this nonsense that the corporations will pay, you probably believe your employer pays half of you social security contribution. Of course, it won’t work. Where will the industries go that are subject to this huge tax? All that can, will got to China, India, etc, of course costing us what is remaining of our manufacturing industry, and therefore, millions of more jobs. Gaucho has it right, a huge money grab. But, furthermore, part of the planned destruction of the private sector.

Somebody pointed out that ice that floats on water does not change the volume of the water…this is absolutely true. (and is something that has been known as a basic physical fact for centuries) However, the Antarctic and Greenland glaciers are NOT floating on the water. They are sitting on land. When THEY melt, the entrained water will wind up….duh…wait for it…in the OCEANS. And, there is a LOT of water involved in those thousands of cubic miles of ice.

If you want to try to understand just how much carbon dioxide is in the atmosphere, how much there was a couple hundred years ago, and how much there is now, just look at the existing data.

There is no doubt that carbon levels have jumped tremendously in the last fifty years. Now, is it caused by human activity or cow farts? Are there that many more cows? Right now were right at about 390 ppm. Fifty years ago, it was just above 300ppm. For the last 250 years before that, it was never above 300ppm.

I know I’m waisting my time with this explaination. If you don’t want to believe that humans have severely impacted the environment, you won’t. As I’ve said, many times before, facts confuse the far right and only make them believe misinformation even more strongly.

Jellio

I can tell you that they will not believe what you said.

Heck they will not believe anything they say unless they say it.

What can you expect from people who are so arrogant that they believe that they now have the right to say who is and is not a citizen of the US, based on the criteria that they developed.

Dave–

The ill, the handicapped, the hospitalized, you know, those who are physically unable to work, ….. are they citizens under YOUR plan ?

Why doesn’t the Obama admin just come out and say they need the revenue to push their agenda and that means taxing any and everything, including carbon emissions? That would certainly give the cap and tax bill credibility and allow an honest up or down vote. The left continuously pushes, unjustly, “for the future of our global environment” while ignoring the burdens on future American citizens. Wind and solar will have their day when they are afffordable. For now, continue to develop all resources, for the good of our future generations.
