Meddle here, meddle there
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
President Obama said he didn’t want to meddle in Iranian affairs. Then he meddled in Honduran affairs. Then he sent VP Biden to Iraq to meddle in their affairs. Iran hates us and says so. Honduras has been a long time US supporter. Iraq is a potential democracy in the volatile middle east. I don’t want to medle in Obama’s policy, but perhaps he would explain his reasoning in these cases. It confuses me.

The voters that put a naive buffoon in charge of the free world, and therefore the future of civilization, actually expected competence? Hope and change.
I hope he changes!
However, until completes his Socialist experiment we are in for a ride. At least it will slow down to a crawl in 2011.
Then his gaffe-machine sparked a rube-arb yesterday by stating:
WASHINGTON - Vice President Joe Biden signaled that the Obama administration would not stand in the way if Israel chose to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities, even as the top US military officer said any attack on Iran would be destabilizing.
Biden’s remarks suggested a tougher US stance against Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Nonetheless, administration officials insisted his televised remarks yesterday reflected the US view that Israel has a right to defend itself and make its own decisions on national security.
————————–
Which forced Obama today to add:
Vice President Joe Biden said in an interview with ABC’s “This Week” program on Sunday that Israel had a sovereign right to decide what is in its best interest in dealing with Iran’s nuclear ambitions, a comment seen by some as giving Israel a green light to attack.
Asked if that was the intent of his administration, Obama said: “Absolutely not.”
————————
–Now Israel is scratching their collective heads and Iran is wondering just WHAT is going on.
So which Honduras is Dan speaking? Is he speaking of the Democratic Honduras that was in place until a few weeks ago or the Honduras that is in place after a military take over? Is he suggesting that we support the concept that the military at will can over throw any friendly democratically elected government and we should say or do nothing?
We have over 120,000 troops in Iraq, that is not meddling? Perhaps it is also not meddling when Dick Cheney suggests that we should not pay attention to the troop reduction treaty that was negotiated by the administration of which he was part. Of course that would be meddling since we would be breaking a treaty and keeping troops in a country that does not wish them to be there.
As for Iran, tell us what you wished us to do if anything in Iran. We were not going to commit troops, we had none to commit if we wished to. We could have spoken out in harsher terms. The the Iranian government would have used that against the demonstrators. Look at the Iranian British employees. As far as we can tell they did nothing to encourage the demonstrators but they are now on trial. So what were we to do? Should we have done as in Hungary in 1954 and encouraged them with false hopes that we would send troops? It was not even clear that the demonstrators would not have looked upon us in a harsher light than their own government.
Bob,
Gonna keep this civil. Please read up on what actually happened in Honduras. It will surprise you. I initially had the same feelings as you on the subject until I read up on it. Honduras has every right to do what they did.
“So which Honduras is Dan speaking?”-Boob-
–We’ll leave out the obvious, but for the not so obvious…
–We are talking about the one that had a guy term-limited out by the constitution, who decided he didn’t want to leave. He decided on election day to hold an illegal and unplanned referendum to try and change the constitution, so he could run again.
–So the supreme court handed down a writ to have him removed and the country turned over to the rightful heir of succession. This was not a military coup, as the military is not in control of the government.
–This was an orderly succession of power, something Chavez, Zelaya, and Obama don’t agree with. My daddy used to tell me you can tell everything you need to know about a man by whom he chooses to befriend. He was a wise man.
–That Obama chooses to befriend dictators and zealots is serious, but not change we can believe in.
Doc,
In a nutshell, you are correct. Got it from the source directly, know peeps who frequent Honduras.
Budb…
According to the Wall Street Journal article I read you are right and wrong. The Supreme Court ordered him seized. That is interesting in itself. The court can rule the referendum is illegal and negate the results. Can you imagine what would happen if every time in the US a Presidential Initiative was ruled illegal and the court ordered the President seized? Bush would have been seized by the military 3 or 4 times over Gitmo. The current President of Honduras had 6 moths left on his term. Under any circumstances the WSJ article did not say that the court ordered him exiled.
Since there were 6 months remaining in the term are you telling me that there was no impeachment process similar to our constitution. Most constitutions in this part of the world are modeled after our constitution and I do not remember were ours says the President can be removed by order of the Supreme Court.
Since neither one of us are experts on their constitution and we do not have a copy of their constitution we cannot be sure. I just find it strange if their constitution has an article that allows the courts to impeach the president. So it would be a coup if the man was legally the President and the military reports to the President.
Dan,
Actually, Obama’s mindset is quite easy to understand. You see, in his radical, 1960’s-Bill Ayers/Jeremiah Wright/Saul Alinsky-inspired thinking, the people many Americans would consider “bad guys”, (like Iranian clerics, Hugo Chavez, Kim Jong-Il, Vlad Putin, Fidel Castro, or Barbara Boxer), are only evil because of subversion by the United States. And any country or group allied with America (Israel, Chile, Honduras, UK, Pro-Life supporters, NRA members, boy scouts) is a tool of that subversion.
To BHO, all we need to do is kiss the feet of our adversaries and apologize for our insistence on such horrible things as human rights, democracy, and individual freedom, and we’ll all be pals. Meanwhile, all those former allies will get their comeuppance when they’re brought down a peg or two to Third World status.
See, it’s not so hard.
Dan…as Henry Kissinger said yesterday,Obama is like a grand chess player. He”s always 2 steps ahead of everyone else. His policies can be confusing for people with little vision. Don”t fret. Go have another beer and watch GOPTV.
