True heroes went unrecognized while we fawned over Jackson
As a veteran and a citizen of the United States, a couple of events this week have me concerned. While we, as a nation, were celebrating our independence on July 4th, our fearless leader, President Obama, was in Russia. Then, the major news affiliates seemed to think that this was a great thing. What kind of message are we sending to the rest of the world when our leader is out of the country during the celebration of one of the
most important events in our nation’s history? Personally, I think it is a
grievous insult to the American people and our great country that not only was our President not here, but he was negotiating in Russia to scale back our nuclear weapons - just as we continually read about the North Koreans escalating their use and firing of missiles.
If that wasn’t bad enough, the major news event this week on the front pages of the Internet, newspapers and magazines not to mention “breaking news”
bars on television, is the death of Michael Jackson. Did anyone even
notice that we had seven soldiers die in Afghanistan or that the story about these brave, selfless troops was on page seven in the St. Louis Post Dispatch. I’m not sure if any of the other national newspapers even covered the loss of our soldiers.
To sum it up, we have a dead weirdo musician on the front pages of news media while the story of America’s true heroes is buried or barely mentioned. On a most historically important day of the year for Americans, President Obama plans for and leaves our country to work out a deal with the Russians to curtail our military strength in case of attack. I hope the citizens of the United States of America really stop and think about what is happening in our country.

Only in the USA, would a pedophile nut job be honored. It was a disgrace!!!
After watching this coverage, I now know how Obama got elected.
What you saw at the funeral was Obama voters. It is amazing, it doesnt matter what they do because the left will make excuses for anything and everything. This comes from someone that truly enjoyed his music and skills, however he was more than strange and I am convinced he was a pedophile. Sorry, no excuses for that exist. The largest problem is that this guy was made out to be a god and the soldiers get spit on by some of the same people who attended that funeral. Isn’t that just sick!
I thought it funny when Lester Holt said prior to the funeral; “today we will find out just how many people Michael Jackson touched.” LOL….The media is just as sleazy as any typical lib.
Just chalk it up to a “bad news day” for you Woger. You need to watch FOX and get only the news you enjoy.
Correct me if I am wrong, but this was an international news coverage event.
We’re not in the Cold War anymore, so get over Obama being in Russia.
As far as scaling back our nukes: I am willing to bet we still have enough nukes to wipe any country we want off the face of the Earth. That being said, the nuke arms race is no longer a matter of national security.
Has anyone ever wondered why NO ONE has dropped a nuke since we did in Japan? Those two bombs were toys compared to the ones we have in our arsenal nowadays. These weapons aren’t the answer to any problem.
smith,
Sorry to say that FOX was also guilty of non stop coverage of the pedophile. Is it just me or has war coverage pretty much ceased since Jan 20?
Roger Riley…
what a damned idiot you are…
Mr. Riley,
Your criticism of President Obama is a little unfair. I’m sure he is not where he is because he enjoys the surroundings any more than troops in Afghanistan or Iraq–it is his job to be there. His presence on American soil is not necessary in order to celebrate the nation’s independence. Except for a few “dud” bottle rockets and a couple of ant incursions into unsuspecting picnic baskets, all went well. I do, however, agree with your assertion that the media, in general, has a rather skewed view of journalistic priorities. Michael Jackson sells newspapers, the soldier from Indiana who remains nameless and faceless, dead on a remote battlefield in a country most people can’t find on a map… not so much. If I could change anything about the Post-Dispatch, I would include a daily section featuring a picture and respectful paragraph of each soldier who gives “the last full measure of devotion.” As for the 4th of July coverage of Michael Jackson’s memorial–I thought one more story and my head would appropriately explode.

I can’t believe it took you until the 4th to get that feeling. Heck, I had to quit watching ALL news about a day after his death.
