Anger on the right should not be ignored

Glenn Beck’s ”9-12″ protest in DC Saturday was a good-sized gathering, about 60,000-70,000 according to the DC fire department, and liberals would be wise not to dismiss the anger behind it. But it wasn’t massive — despite the wild claims of 2.5 million by right-wing lobbyists and bloggers. One-fifth of one percent of the country is hardly a “movement.”

Let’s not forget that during the campaign Obama appeared before 75,000 in Portland, Oregon, 100,000 in St. Louis, and 200,000 in Berlin. The turnout Saturday was impressive but hardly historical.

Sadly, much of their anger and fear comes from outright lies told by fringe conservatives like Beck, Michelle Malkin, Sean Hannity, and Rush Limbaugh. And their rhetoric is getting more violent and more Nazi-inspired every day as the lies and resulting anger compound. If they only knew that most of what they fear is just the fever dreams of political narcissists, I bet there would have been far fewer at the Capitol on Saturday.

Outright lies? Don’t keep us in suspense, tell us exactly who lied and about what? Did they lie about Van Jones? Acorn? Are they lying about Cass Sunstein supporting pets filing lawsuits against their owners? Ignorance of facts does not mean somebody armed with them is lying.

Please give examples of violent rhetoric, other than instructions to union jack booted thugs swinging baseball bats at kneecaps in support of their argument … oops, wrong party.

Scott Miller,

You lie!!!

There were at least two trillion people there!

Let’s see, who lied;

Bush
Cheney
Wolfowitz
Rummy
Perl
Rice
Hughes
Fleisher

…and that’s just off the top of my head. Where were all these supposed outraged Americans in the “post 9/11 era” (never say the Bush Administration)?

Funny how this faux outrage is so over the top after only 9 months of Obama, but not a word of this outrage during the Bush presidency…inconvenient truth, no?

Phill R.

Your ability to comprehend leaves a lot to be desired, Miller wrote of lying by conservatives like Beck, Michelle Malkin, Sean Hannity, and Rush Limbaugh. Comments regarding their lies are welcome but distant historical claptrap repeated ad infinitum is quite tiring.

I don’t know for sure if two trillion is accurate but there was 30 percent more than for Obama’s inauguation.

Scott
You got to keep in mind the job factor with that demonstration. See all of those people who demonstrated have jobs. Many others across the country who had to be at work on Monday could not come and demonstrate so for every person that was there, you have to add in theory 10 other people who wanted to be there but couldn’t because they had to work on Monday somewhere in the country. You see at Obama’s inauguration there may have been hundreds of thousands of people there, but only 50 missed work that day and that is the power of liberal protests, there really is nothing else for them to do except stand around and shout.

Stooge, you were counting?

Who cares? Maybe I went too far, OK, there were just 200 million, or more.

You are a koolaid drinker, aren’t you?
