GOP loves free enterprise (except when it doesn’t)

I have to admit I was wrong about conservatives. I thought they wanted lower taxes and less spending. It seems they are not concerned about spending your tax dollars, as long as you are supporting their private industry donors.

I read the “Votes in congress” section of the 9/21/09 issue of the Post. The House Democrats voted to save nearly $9 billion annually on the student loan program by cutting out the middle man – the banks. The Republicans voted to spend the extra $9 billion of your taxes to help banks.

I started to think of some other examples. Despite having over 40% of all Americans covered satisfactorily by 5 government insurance plans, conservatives still believe private carriers are better, even though it increases your taxes. Proof! I now have Medicare at a monthly cost of about $300 to me. Taxpayers pay the rest of my costs. Formerly, I had a private Medicare Advantage plan which cost me $0. Taxpayers paid ALL my bill. (I do thank you all.) Republicans thought up this idea to spend your money, and liked it so much they tried last year to increase the amount you pay the carriers. The Democrats voted to save you money.
Republicans claim to love the troops in Iraq and Afganistan. But they hire many contractors who earn twice what troops earn, with substantially less risk.

Your insurance premiums are skyrocketing. They do not care. They have no real plan to improve. But they are afraid of a public option because they claim it will  save people so much money, everyone will take it. Campaign funds will dry up.

Even on local level they prefer privatization. Our state Republicans tried to use stimulus money to give us a tax rebate. Then they voted to force us to pay more to Ameren so they can build a new nuclear plant. Is that how free enterprise works?
Of course, logic is not their forte. QUESTION: When President Bush hired a Haliburton to build roads and schools in Iraq, it was good. It is privatization. When President Obama tries to hire a Haliburton to build roads and schools as part of stimulus, it is bad. It is growth of big government. Can someone explain the difference to me?

AMEN!!!

Your point about Haliburton is right on the money (no pun intended). I’ve been wondering why such a stink is being made about ACORN, but nothing is said about the 10X or more excess of federal funds throw at companies like Haliburton and such.

You’d have to be a Republican to be able to do that with a straight face. Either that or have Rush’s brain. I still haven’t figured out whether he actually believes all that stuff that he says or if that 400 million he is being paid is getting in the way.
I remember many years ago when he said he was “only an entertainer” so he didn’t have to be factually correct about amything.

Actually alot has been said about KBR. The present Admin keeps funding them. ACORN is screwed. Don’t worry; apparently nobody has ever heard of them, it shouldn’t be a big deal!!

Wow, how you you argue with such ignorance?

“Despite having over 40% of all Americans covered satisfactorily by 5 government insurance plans…” -Martin Walsh

Maybe this is the real reason health insurence is so screwed up. Oh, and did I mention that Medicare and Social Security are both going bankrupt?

“Your insurance premiums are skyrocketing. They do not care. They have no real plan to improve.”-Martin Walsh

You are either ignorant or a liar. Alowing insurance companies to compete across state lines would incease competition and lower costs. Tort reform would reduce the “lawyer’s tax.” Of course, the Dims hate this because trial lawyers are one of their biggest contributors. So much for their concern about special interests.

I could go on but why bother with such abundant ignorance…See you in November 2010

Shtaven, you are on target, especially about talking to idiots. Martin, you need to take a sedative. It wouldnt hurt if you leaned business and history either. My question to you is, where did you get this idea that government is the answer to all your problems? Let me help you. Were you aware that Clinton gave Haliburton a no bid contract? Does it matter, of course not. You know so little about what Haliburton does and if anyone else could do it. It doesnt matter anyway. Health insurance is too high because of Government and because of demanding citizens. So, if it makes you feel good to blame one party over the other then I hope it does the job. The real problem is government, and that consists of both, Republicans and Democrats!

The student loan bill that the GOP wisely opposed would have driven the banks out of the student loan business. The government would have been the ONLY underwriter of student loans. This is exactly what the Dems want to do with health care: have a public option to undercut the insurance companies and drive them out of business so that the government option becomes the only option. More government power! Would student loans then be based on who is most supportive of Obama policies, which is how the NEA hands out grants for the arts? Would applicants have to sing songs praising Obama like the schoolchildren in New Jersey?

Your love for Medicare is quite confusing. In 1967, we were told it would cost only 8 billion by 1990. The actual cost was 110 billion. When Congress changed Medicare’s home care benefit in 1988, the projected 1993 cost of the benefit was $4 billion. The actual 1993 cost was $10 billion. In 1987, Congress swore that by 1992 Medicaid’s Disproportionate Share Hospital payments would be under 1 billion, Actual 1992 cost: 17 billion. Just a slight miscalculation, but since it’s taxpayer money who cares? Obama himself says medicare is going bankrupt. Obama himself says that Medicare is so full of fraud and waste that eliminating the fraud and waste could pay for much of his health care plan. Given this track record, I think it is so cute that you actually believe the liars who say that a government plan would be more efficient and would save money!

The stimulus has been a disaster. Obama promised us that the unemployment rate would be kept under 9% if his stimulus passed. It passed, and the unemployment rate is 9.7% and now Obama says it’s going over 10%! And this idiot wants total control over health care?

So you libs get points for consistency. Every problem has the same solution: more government, more spending, less capitalism. maybe someday you fools will get lucky and one of your big-government solutions might actually work!

“Alowing insurance companies to compete across state lines would incease competition and lower costs.”

Your point is as good as your spelling. They did that with the banks and looked what happened.

What happened is Barney Frank and Chris Dodd.

More neocon revisionist history. Dereg started with Reagan as soon as he came in office. S&L $800 billion bailout under Bush 41. Clinton did push for dereg of investment banks but a Republican majority in the house wrote and passed the bill. Don’t push your lies on someone who doesn’t have short term memory loss. Dumbsh*t ditto heads.
