Wilson’t outburst is latest in series of outrageous acts
|
I am writing to comment on Representative Addison Graves “Joe” Wilson Sr. (R-SC). At a joint session of Congress on the House floor, Representative Wilson interrupted an address from President Barack Hussein Obama by shouting, “You lie!” My comments are as follows: · Representative Wilson’s conduct (or lack of conduct) was an embarrassment to Representative Wilson, the United States Congress, and the United States of America as a whole. In this modern age, we can be sure that Representative Wilson’s foolish utterance has been played and replayed hundreds of times around the world. As we are attempting to show Afghans and Iraqis how to create civilized, representative governments in their nations, this incident occurred within our government. How embarrassing-how ironic-how sad. · Representative Wilson is a retired colonel in the South Carolina Army National Guard. I guess that one old Soldier must have forgotten the lessons that one learns in the military about respect, especially for the Commander-in-Chief. An article at http://www.nydailynews.com /news/ politics/2009/09/10/2009-09-10_meet_the_obama_heckler_representative_joe_wilson_of _ south_carolina.html tells us more about Representative Wilson. · I, for one, believe that Representative Wilson does not belong in the United States Congress. I hope that a majority of the voters in Representative Wilson’s district agree with me during the 2010 elections. · Representative Wilson’s outburst is only the latest in a series of outrageous acts by the Republican Party and its supporters. During the same aforementioned speech, House Minority Whip Eric Ivan Cantor (R-VA) was seen texting. As I write this letter, Representative Lynn Jenkins’ comment about the Republican Party’s search for a “great white hope” still echoes in our ears. In June 2009, Mr. Rusty DePass, a GOP activist, compared an escaped gorilla to ancestors of First Lady Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama. We have seen phony “grassroots” protests against health care reform by stooges bought and paid for by Big Pharma and the insurance companies. · Representative Wilson’s outburst, along with so many other ill-advised actions and statements of the Republican Party and its supporters reinforces all of the negative stereotypes about the Republican Party. I am on good terms with many decent people who identify themselves as conservatives and/or Republicans; I sadly observe that those decent individuals-and millions of others-are remaining silent and standing back. As a result, the fascists, haters, racists, and other fringe elements are on center stage. · The Republican Party will suffer consequences for its failure to correct itself. Mr. Rob Miller, a former marine and future challenger of Representative Wilson, has raised over $500,000 in the wake of Representative Wilson’s outburst. For the record, I will add to that amount.

Yeah Carl, I’m sure you were okay with the boos and catcalls during Bush’s State of the Union Address. Just another hypocrite heard from. Go ahead and donate to anyone you want to. It’s called free speech which apparently you think should apply only to those who agree with you.
Carl, while we can all agree that the time and place for the outburst was inappropriate; since then, both the Senate and the White House have taken steps to close the loophole brought to national attention by Wilson’s outburst. So what, exactly, are you upset at? A congressman calling someone a liar? Where was your outrage at Speaker Pelosi when she called the CIA liars? The difference is Wilson has been proven factual, Pelosi’s outburst cant be proven until the WH releases CLASSIFIED briefings.
PS, you better pony up a lot of money to Miller; Wilson pulled in over a cool million.
James R.
We can keep going over who was first.
I do not know how they decided on the rules but apparently yelling out was considered to much and he violated a rule.
Dems booed Bush, no words. Prior to that Repubs hissed at Clinton. So were the Repubs first? I am sure if we continue going back we can find the Dems did something prior to Clinton and then further back we could find the Repubs did something. So I am sure we could go on and on.
I would prefer that they do neither, boo or hiss, and I believe that speaking out is beyond good taste. I would also like to see a limit on the numbers of times that there can be applause, if that happened I would watch all of the State of the Union rather than quit once I tired of the manufactured applause.
Hey Carl, newsflash, there aint gonna be many people agreeing with you in the 2010 elections. Your party is smoked you ACORN lover you. I am sure Wilson is really scared now Carl that you are going to donate to his opponent.
The Libtard
I am with you Bob. The orchestrated ovations are disgusting. I would say if that type of overt approval is permitted, than disapproval should be permitted. I would prefer neither.
Doubting
The applause goes on by each party depending on the party of the speaker. I find it breaks up the speech to much and I believe that most of it is manufactured. I have no problem with sincere applause, but they all start on signal and they all end on signal. They might has well use a sound track.
–So your indignation of Wilson’s outburst justifies your labeling opponents of Bambi’s agenda “racists, haters andand fascists”, who are “bought and paid for” mobs. Nice.
–In my eyes, I see democracy at work, with passionate loud voices on both sides of the debate. Maybe that’s your problem. There’s too damn much freedom goin’ on out there. Don’t fret, if your buddies get their way, they’ll put an end to that!
–Extreme would be when, in 1856, Preston Brooks took his cane upside the head of Charles Sumner in the Senate chamber while some other democrats held back the astonished at gunpoint. Luckily, we are past that now, I hope. Of course, Sumner had called slavery “amoral” a few days earlier, and wouldn’t accept Brooks’ offer of a duel, the preferred method of settling scores in those days. So Brooks figured he had it coming.
–Get a grip of yourself man, and enjoy the beauty that is our democracy.
Our country, full of free people, speaking their piece, and getting their voices heard.
–As my poppy used to say, “if you don’t like gettin’ up in the morning, consider the alternative.”
Far better to sit politely by when statism passes over us. Nancy’s nuclear look at the time was particularly satisfying, given her conduct of late (calling CIA liars, implying some of us are Nazis…). Come to think of it, I think my master just called me a liar in the minutes prior to Wilson’s outburst.
Joe Wilson is a hero! Its about time some of these lame Republicans stood up. I will give the Socialist Party credit for being heard and getting things done. Of course its Un-American but at least they stand up.
I want to see a real sweep of current Representatives except for Joe Wilson and Shimkus who are tired of this lying of the administration. We need people who will stand up and STOP this unbelievable spending and Government takeover.
So Joe, its a good start. Lets not stop. The American people will vote your butts out if you do stop. For those of you Representatives who are watching. After the next election, you can watch from our seats!
Carl,
While the remark was not appropriate for that particular forum, Rep Wilson called the WH to personally apologize to the President. The President accepted. It should be a non issue at this point. It has carried over because the Senate took measures to clarify and close the issue Rep Wilson called the President out on. However, I agree with Bob, stop the orchestrated applause.
