Abortion is not the solution to unwanted pregancies

“Grateful for program” (Letters, Oct. 12) is a sad example of liberals’ belief that abortion is the solution to unwanted pregnancies.  Astonishingly, the author, “a woman and a nurse”, praises Washington University’s new program to train doctors to destroy unborn babies inside what should be the safety of their mothers’ wombs.  That this training will happen along side of training for life-saving surgeries “in utero” defies all logic and human decency, not to mention the physicians’ oath to “first, do no harm”.

To call abortion “healing and therapeutic” is a lie.  Certainly the babies are not “healed”.   Recently mothers have begun  speaking out about how they regret their abortions.  The pain, sorrow, and depression they tried to suppress eventually resurface, often after years of dysfunction which insidiously affects their lives and those of their loved ones.

I am sorry the letter-writer’s grandmother died under tragic circumstances.  Today there are crisis pregnancy centers where caring people are waiting to help women through untimely pregnancies, assuring that neither mother nor baby dies.  Abortion is never the answer;  it only creates more problems.

Oh great. Another right-wing nut who can’t accept the fact that abortion is (and rightly so) safe and legal. Sandra, if you oppose abortion, you probably should choose not to have one. Aren’t you happy you have that choice? You people only care about a fetus until it’s born; after that it’s every kid for him/herself. If the same people who stand outside Planned Parenthood with posters of dismembered fetuses would channel that same energy into helping orphaned children or children with disabilities, then they would be practicing what they preach. But alas, once you’re born, you’re on your own! The hypocrisy is mindblowing.

West Ender,

I challenged you on another thread to look at some pictures:
“Ever seen the photos of an aborted baby (fetus in your terms)? I challenge each of you to go here and view these pictures and tell me this was not a human life.” http://www.abortiontv.com/Pics/AbortionPicturesWarning.htm

Did you look at them? Probably not. Too much trouble. You might be offended. Do you think the baby might be offended to have it’s life snuffed out? Aren’t you happy your mother didn’t decide to have an abortion? You had a chance to live, every other child deserves the same.

You complain about no one taking care of the unwanted children after their birth. Your favorite political party has done more in the last 50 years to remove funding from orphanages and homes all in the name of “it’s for the children”. All federal funding was removed from church sponsored homes in the name of separation of church and state, yet these were the people providing most of the care and support.

So if you want to see a hypocrite, go look in a mirror.

Regardless of what you might believe, abortion is not health care. It’s the killing of an child while in a the protection of it’s mother’s womb. Some protection!

James, you can show me all the grotesque pictures of aborted fetuses that you care to, but you’re not changing my mind. Thankfully, our government protects a woman’s right to choose whether or not she must carry a pregnancy to term. I am not changing your mind, and you are certainly not changing mine. This is why the abortion issue will always be a hot topic. I just happen to side with the majority of Americans who believe that women should decide their reproductive futures. Don’t worry though– you will always be able to surf the internet looking for horrific dead fetus pictures because abortion will always be legal to keep you inspired.

James R,

“All federal funding was removed from church sponsored homes in the name of separation of church and state, yet these were the people providing most of the care and support.”

Too many children are sexually abused hopelessly in orphanages and I could care less if every penny is stripped away from these religious based homes. If at all possible, mother and child should be kept together and the mother mentored into self-sufficiency.

One of the most effective way to prevent abortions, is to make contraception accessible and affordable. Do any of you who are pro-life agree?

Sandra,
Hate to burst your bubble…Abortion IS a rather effective way to end an unwanted pregnancy.
How many children do you foster? How many-not crack BABIES-crack 15 year olds, hell, 7 year olds, do you foster?
How many kids with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome do you foster?
Just pointing out that there are THOUSANDS of Missouri children that we are already not taking care of.
Start taking care of EVERY SINGLE CHILD, just in Missouri, and I will agree with you.

Walker,

You never met an abortion you didn’t like. How many died today for someone’s five minutes of pleasure?

Children sexually abused in orphanages? How many are sexually abused every day in public schools, in their own neighborhoods, in their own homes by their own parents? My 14 year old step grand child was sexually abused at the age of 5 by a 16 year old bully when his biological father had custody. So don’t talk to me about child abuse. I know about it first hand. I also know it took three years to get custody away from the biological father who knew the abuse was going on but denied it to state investigators. Said his son was making it up.

Orphanages at least have some regulation and oversight. But they don’t fit with your belief in murder (abortion) on demand.

Walker, West Ender, Cecily, Qgirl,

Tell me one thing, at what point is it no longer okay to murder a child. 26 weeks, 36 weeks, 10 minutes before birth (partial birth abortion), ten minutes after birth, 26 weeks after birth? When does it stop being okay to snuff out an innocent life? No platitudes or talking points, just a specific answer to a specific question. Answer that.

it is okay to terminate a pregnancy before the third trimester as provisioned by law. the powers that be didn’t arrive at this decision arbitrarily. most physicians agree that a fetus cannot feel pain until the third trimester. i agree that partial birth abortion is abhorrent and should only be performed in the very rare instances when the woman’s life is in danger. i believe abortion is a woman’s right should she choose to end her pregnancy before the fetus is viable on its own. the procedure should only be performed by trained and qualified professionals and that is why is must remain legal.

Cecily, how many form of contraception do you need? What are we up to now, 8, 9, 10 forms? Even if people are given it for free, or reduced cost, are we going to expect them to consistently use them? Or is that trying to legislate responsibility, a discipline long ago abandoned by the liberal arm of the Democratic party?

Oh, the never-ending-never-ending-never-ending discussion.

Of course, there is the always present correlative of those against abortion and their ‘problem’ with contraception—an ironic fact that generally goes over the head of this part of the population.

And James R, your reference to ‘5 minutes of pleasure’ speaks more about
your own limited concept of human sexuality than you know…
