Cunningham distorts the truth to advance agenda

I could understand State Sen. Jan Cunningham’s (R-Chesterfield) Letter to the Editor on October 17, 2009 in a clearer context when I looked up the demographics of Chesterfield and read that a 2007 estimate of the median income for a family there was $117,092. I also realize that if Ms. Cunningham is not covered for health insurance through a spouse, then she is probably also on her own government sponsored health insurance plan.

She states that the vast majority of Americans don’t support legislation that will force them to change coverage but doesn’t mention that there is no plan being considered that would force anyone to change. She also doesn’t mention that right now there is no law to prevent companies that currently offer coverage to continue.

She proposes to introduce legislation to protect the rights of Missourians to chose their own doctors, negotiate with medical providers and pay for services directly. I’m on Medicare and always have the right to choose my own doctor but I suspect that if I told a provider I didn’t want to use it and preferred to pay cash for services directly they would take my money. I assume people know that no matter what scary stories people are telling now about what havoc government run health care can cause, Medicare, which is a government run health care program, will most likely be their primary insurance plan when they retire, and the majority of problems Medicare is experiencing now can be attributed to that fact that people are living longer yet retiring earlier than people in the recent past, and not due to incompetence in the system or overhead that comes any where near what private insurance companies charge to administer their programs.

If you have to scare people with untruths to make it sound as if you have a better idea then I have to believe that when people understand all the true facts maybe the plan you espouse that only protects insurance company profits will be seen for what it is, and that the time has come, for the good of all, for change.

“If you have to scare people with untruths to make it sound as if you have a better idea”….

You must be speaking of “The Messiah” in this paragraph. He hasn’t spoken a word of truth YET.

Roberta,

Medicare is going bankrupt. Good luck having it in 10 years.

Two elections ago I sat in a neighbor’s living room with about 16 of my other neighbors and had a “chat” with Sen. Cunningham. My friend and next door neighbor was doing his job as a good republican by pumping/pimping her candidacy. By most this woman would be considered as dense. She is just not very bright. However she knows her Chesterfield voters and their hot button issues. Cunningham is a “minime” of Todd Akin and that should tell you enough. I do not vote for her and have no respect for her with the exception that she does accurately reflect the core beliefs and social consciousness of her backers. She delivers her vote for those that send her there and that is all anyone should expect from her. She is not a critical thinker.

Actually, that isn’t a reply to the facts that Ms Dostal stated, just a cheap shot. Pretty bad debate technique….

Ofcourse Medicare has little true overhead, being part of the government its collections department is the IRS, its sales department is run by Social Security etc. And then there is that teeny little problem with fraud. You know, one of the fastest growing crimes in America, Medicare fraud. Even the Mob is getting involved.

Magnum, how is your Mom? I hope and pray for you and for better health for her. God bless man.

Just got home from the hospital. No change. Did talk to her for about 2 minutes and she drifted again.

Thanks.

The letter is about “truth”. You may consider it a cheap shot, I don’t.

I guess you think “Your Messiah” has been telling us the truth?

Lunar,
She is/was my senator/rep as well. I concur with your assessment of Ms. Cunningham. I am not a fan.

…”there is no plan being considered that would force anyone to change.”

Roberta S. Dostal

Ms. Dostal,
Would you be willing to enter into a contract that would obligate you to personally provide my current coverage if it is withdrawn as a result of your government reforms? Since you are convinced my current plan will remain unchanged, any concerns you might have would be as invalid as you feel mine are.
