Language
I moderate the letters blog with a very light touch.
Earlier today, I removed a few posts that some readers found offensive. Using sexually explicit language generally should be avoided, unless, of course, it is related to the topic at hand. (For example, a post about David Letterman might elicit comments about his sexual attractiveness. A letter about health care, generally, would not.)
One poster had a good gauge: If you wouldn’t use the word to describe your mother (or father or child), don’t use it here.
I’ve put a few words in moderation. Magdumb is unacceptable to me. (As is superdumbdave, which was put in moderation months ago. Neither complained; I found them offensive.)
If you see something offensive, send me an e-mail (jamieriley@post-dispatch.com).
Thanks for listening.
Jamie

What is so offensive about the orgasm?
Magnum,
There is nothing offensive about the word. It was the context in which it was used.

Jamie
The f word is used, sob and other words are used. Are you not being a little prudish, or is it because I am a conservative posting on a liberal web site? Orgasm is bad but the f word is ok. Wow
I have no problem with magdumb.
Why do you permit “teabaggers”, an explicit reference to a sexual act?
SI
I do not know what you mean by that being reference to a sexual act. When I have used the term I am referencing the people who believe in the Tea Party movement. So how is that a sexual reference? How is that any more offensive than referring to Democrats as Dims?
Teabaggers shouldn’t be ashamed of being teabaggers.
magnum
Once again her point and most points that found it offensive was the context.
Would you have found it funny, as you did when you used it, if your wife or mother had been substituted for the person you did use? Would it have been OK to use that word in reference to your mother in the context that you used it?
SI
The term teabaggers is offensive to me, but not to Jamie. That tells us completely where he is coming from. Ok for libs, but not for conservatives.
There was not a damn thing wrong with my post on the other thread, no foul language etc. I guess the word orgasm is now a new no no, but teabaggers is ok.
What a frickin crock.
Bob
I have NO problem with the way I used the word, and if used with the same context with my wife, or mother, no problem.
I am now convinced, beyond a shadow of a doubt, liberalism is a mental disorder. It is ok for me to do it, but by god you can’t!!!!
SI
I think that I found were teabagger got its offensive meaning, such has sexual. Urbandictionary specializes in giving offensive and usually sexual meanings to words, it is a low life site. It also gives demeaning descriptions to Democrat and Republican. So are you also suggesting that we stop using those words simply because a low life web site has assigned demeaning and sexual descriptions to those words?
If we are to allow our vocabulary to be ruled by that site we will soon run out of words for it claims to have descriptions for over 4 million words.
