By what authority does Leonard Pitts judge Sammy Sosa?
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
By what authority does Leonard Pitts Jr. become judge and jury regarding Sammy Sosa.
It seems as if what Mr. Sosa does or doesn’t do is not a matter of concern to Mr. Pitts. Mr. Sosa should have the opportunity to do as he chooses.
I wonder if he judged Michael Jackson?

In his column on the 15th, Leonard Pitts chastises those who berated Muslims because of the actions of a motivated murderer. The motive has not been determined. The Muslim community is being tainted with a broad brush for the actions of this one man, he argues. U.S. Muslims die for us, too, he writes. Even so, for his column on the 22nd he decides it is his prerogative to chastise another man (Sammy Sosa) for daring to be who he wants to be even though Sammy is not white and in Mr. Pitts view that is reason enough to be proud. Well, the U.S. soldiers die for him too, Mr. Pitts. I thought Mr. Pitts’ point on the 15th was to withhold unwarranted judgments that do nothing but make people targets of biased hatred or contempt. In this way we were reminded that people are proud and feel beautiful when they are free to be who they want to be without people making cruel judgments. This just goes to show how easy it is to forget the meaning of “a man is a man” when one tries to define the man.
Sammy Sosa is not an African American, he is a dark skin man of Spanish descent. I guess that it is his business if he wants to paint his face with white lead.
The authority was granted by Rush Limbaugh soon after he gave America his Michael J. Fox vaudvillian immitation of a man suffering from Parkinson’s disease.
