Lane changes on MLK Bridge were not needed
I think that our “Nanny Government” over here in Illinois spent way too much money for shoddy work on a project that was highly unnecessary. I drive that bridge regularly and realize it is narrow, however the dozen or so fatals in the last decade to my recall were at 3 am in the morning and involved alcohol or a dozing “ride finder” driver who is forced to get up at 3am to make the rounds to get all his riders to work on time. I have saw trucks and buses including BiState go across that span down the middle of the white line of the two lanes. Maybe trucks and buses should have been forced off the bridge. In the short time the lanes have changed, I know of at least two accidents involving the merge into the single Westbound lane. No telling how much damage has been done to vehicles by the faulty metal reflective markers that are falling off at a rapid pace. I figure that is the nature of Westbound closure on November 7 all day. I know and respect Representative Ron Stephens for his efforts and your own Pat Gauen on their views on the changes however, is it going to come a day when a driver has to call and make a reservation to travel down any two lane road so all other traffic can be cleared?

I thought that “Nanny Government” referred to laws that are intended to control individual’s self-injurious behavior (seat belts, no smoking, biker helmets, etc.), or money serving the poor (who are obviously undeserving). I had no idea it extended to roads. This sounds more like a perception of “BAD Government”. At least you can eventually vote them out. More than I can say with Wall Street, big insurance, oil companies, etc.
