Liberal is not a bad word
I have read the STL-PD for many, many years. Recently, I have been reading mostly on-line. I have noticed that regardless of the subject or contents, those who do not like it refer to the author as “liberal.” As if it is a bad word.
I consider myself liberal. I have a job–worked from 12 babysitting until 16; and still going. I pay my bills. I don’t like people who “scam the system,” I am understanding that some need help. And I’ve heard that makes me a conservative. Liberal-thinking people work.
I believe every single person deserves the same rights. I don’t think the men and women of the armed forces in god-knows-where fighting could have ever pointed to it on a map prior to serving. Are they fighting for our freedom? Really? Last I heard, our freedom wasn’t at stake. Relax, I UNDERSTAND that we need protection from the terrorists. But to say that Bush started this war to protect Americans is ridiculous. 911 happened on OUR territory. Why not put them at our borders? Why not infiltrate them with spies? Why not a covert action? Bush had a score to settle. So very young people have died, as in Vietnam, and have no real reason why.
Are the men and women fighting for rights for all Americans? Or just some? Homosexuals don’t enjoy the same rights as heterosexuals do…so we take one population and make them inferior?
Liberal? yes. Stupid? no. un-American? no. Ethnocentric? no.
Stop fighting between Americans. If it unity was ever needed, it is now. We all have common goals: debate is healthy, but when it dwindles down to he said/she said name calling, it gets us no where.

Joy Harden:
Thank you Joy, I’ve waited for weeks to see a flailing attack on nothing and although you may be personally offended, it does confirm your liberal status.
Joy, if you’re feeling guilty for being a “liberal”, I think you probably deserve the label.
You see, Dimocrats and liberals like to force their beliefs on all other.
They are not content to live and let live. You think I should pay for abortions, but I don’t want to because it’s the taking of a human life. You think I should accept homosexuality, when I believe it is deviant sexual behavior. You think I should pay lots of taxes, so others who are either lazy or make bad choices, can live as well as everyone else. You think everyone in this country should enjoy the fruits of other’s labor, when I believe that those sneaked into this country illegally shouldn’t be
here, much less get anything I worked for.
One last point: You were able to write this letter to the editor without fear of being arrested and thrown in jail. You should get on your knees and thank the military.
Wouldn’t expect anything less from I Con.
Nice letter, Joy. Conservatives have tarred-and-feathered the term `liberal’ to where it’s automatically perceived as someone who is wishy-washy and wears his or her heart on their sleeve. Most people who fall into the liberal category, by contrast, are people who think through the shades of gray that make up most issues. I would argue that at least half the conservatives are only conservative because it’s mentally easier to think about issues in black-and-white terms and spout off the typical buzzwords. They just don’t want to put in the work. It’s mental welfare that’s been handed down from generation to generation.
Joy,
–You are obviously young and your empty skull, full of mush, is filled with lofty ideals fed to you by your “handlers” in what has become re-education camps today.
–No, “liberalism” is not a bad word per se. Clinically speaking, it is a mental disorder. Others may use this phrase in a joking attempt to ignite anger or thought. I use it with a straight face coming from a realistic and experienced perspective.
–I have “been there and done that”, and I am speaking from experience on many levels. It has also been said in many ways by many people, paraphrasing, “If you aren’t liberally minded at 20, you have no heart, and if you aren’t conservatively minded at 30, you have no mind.”
This is an eternal truth.
–So, there is hope for you yet. Would suggest keeping your mind open, and your heart filled with hope, that you may get to that truth.
–Good luck.
Joy,
Don’t let Bunky get to you. He’s under the misconception that one’s ability to think, clearly, diminishes with age.
A young person can be smart but not wise, wisdom only comes with age. There are reasons to fight, wrong and evil. Yes there is evil, like it or not. Joy wake up and see its not all about everyone being happy, life is not easy and not meant to be. You do what is right for yourself, and leave the rest alone.
Joy,
Take no offense at being called a liberal. Wear the label as a badge of honor. You see a liberal is one who faces an unknown future with the courage to change, innovate and adapt. A conservative faces the unknown future with fear and thus desires to retreat to days and times past when life was less frightening and more understandable. debunk paraphrases W. Churchill for an eternal truth so I will paraphrase K. Gibran with my eternal truth. “Time tarries not backwards but forward.” In other words, the world today is not the same as the world yesterday and never will be again. We cannot run back to the womb whenever we feel threatened. Hold firmly to your idealism. As one grows older he gets tired. As we age it becomes easier to just become a cynic, blame someone else for our problems and get angry at the world. We need your idealism, faith in mankind, hopeful outlook and youthful energy. Don’t despair, a better future for us all rests in the hands of those who are not afraid of the future itself.
” one’s ability to think, clearly, diminishes with age.”
–Another shining example from our resident socio-path, and liberal.
J-love,
–This piece I’ve been reading would interest you. You would have been the perfect case study. It is called:
–Oops, my bad, too much going on at once…mis-hit submit. As I was saying…it is called:
–Narcissistic Blog Disorder and Other Conditions of Online Kookery–
–This is a sort of inverse cousin to Pugilistic Discussion Syndrome, in which the individual has difficulty distinguishing between an online game and real life. The individual sees his or her online character as being as “real” as the individual’s real-world self, if not more so. Mainly prevalent in socio-paths with inverse narcissistic personality disorders such as yours.

–More ganja-induced fantastical faux-thinking from another prototypical
liberal source. Sounds like more of what they are teaching in re-education camps that used to be called schools.
Moon Bat,
–Stop the reefer madness.
