Promoting war in little-understood countries
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
It seems to me, those at the Pentagon promote wars in countries they barely understand, countries whose history they flat-out ignore, at great cost to the rest of us. As it was in Vietnam and Iraq, now being repeated in Afghanistan. I truly thought Obama was smarter than that. It seems that war is what our country is about. I guess it’s good for the economy at the expense of our young men and women and our tax dollars. If the GOP was truly for smaller government and lower taxes, we would not be in Iraq and Afghanistan and Pakistan, but alas, it is all talk and nothing more.
And now Obama and the Democrats continue down that road. Sad.

Good comedic effort, John. What happened to Afghanistan being the “good war”. Oh yeah, the election is over. Or is it? I can’t tell because the campaign continues.
That’s like saying we shouldn’t go to war with Japan because we don’t understand their philosophy of kamikaze. Or let’s not help Britain and France defeat the Nazi’s until our generals take a liberal professor’s class on German history.
Last I heard, Community Organizer in Chief was re-thinking his strategy while October was the month with the highest US troop death count of the ENTIRE war in Afghanistan. You ever try thinking of Afghanistan while you’re playing a pickup game of basketball? Or having J-Lo parties every night? Or playing golf for four hours every Sunday?
John, those at the Pentagon are in the war business. They exist to wage war. But those in Congress are the ones that fund them and authorize them. There is a constitutional process for declarations of war. That process is being ignored by both national parties along with much of the rest of our Constitution.
The bloated and corrupt federal bureaucracy has outgrown any chance for restraint by the states or the people. Hold on! It is going to be a wild ride from here on out regardless of which party is at the throttle.
OK, John, what will you do when Nobama loses in Afghanistan? Then the Taliban will have Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iraq. But with Pakistan, then they’ll get nuclear weapons. And everyone knows they’ve declared Jihad on the West. What will you do then? I’d say the Pentagon is trying to prevent a war….I mean a really big war.
Ahh, Frank, so you’re thinking that there’s a Taliban Domino Theory?
jellio, have you not heard that Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world? That is proof that the Taliban Domino Theory is at work. They are infiltrating our schools and trying to capture the minds of our impressionable youth. What’s next, a Taliban Top 40 radio station? Rally the forces of decency, christianity and the American way and let’s start broadcasting hip hop in Islamabad.
Jellio,
I have to assume you are a tad smarter than your last statement. There is a valid threat of the Taliban taking Pakistan, a nuclear capable country, if we pull out. Pakistan happens to neighbor India, a nuclear capable country; and they don’t like each other. Imagine the fallout from one nuclear weapon detonation, the blame game on who did it, the retaliation, etc,,,game over. At a minimum, a small scale nuclear exchange with participants from the whole region. My point, the region has to be stabilized before we consider pulling out.
“My point, the region has to be stabilized before we consider pulling out.”
I agree.
Bud,
–Don’t feed the troll. Here is an explanation for his madness.
Doc,
Like I said, I have to assume he understands geo-politics just a tad more than his last post would dictate. Maybe he doesn’t,,,,,
Bud,
–Understanding is not in the troll vocabulary. Only “you wrong, me right”
