The essential Christian message has been lost

Regarding “No wonder (local) Catholics are confused,” 11-19-09
I was raised by a devout Italian Catholic and attended four years of Catholic high school, followed by four years at a Catholic (Jesuit) University. I think there is a fairly simple answer to your query: Many Catholics today are confused because so many of them are educated, while so much of what they are told to believe is based on fear, superstition and intolerance. The rest makes no practical sense whatsoever. The essential Christian message of Brotherly Love has been entirely lost in the wilderness.
Which also explains why the Church, once the largest in the world, has stopped growing.

The essential Christian message is to love God with all your heart and to love your brother as yourself. (This could explain why the church is not growing as well–because people forget the love God part.) You could just as easily say the world teaches you to believe things based on fear, political correctness, and intolerance. The rest makes no practical sense to anyone with a mustard seed size of faith.
As I watch and listen to our so called moral conservative leaders debate the necessity of health care for all or the lack there of,I get the impression we have forgotten the “Love Your Neighbor As Yourself” part too. Seeems we have become a greedy, stiff necked, ‘I got mine don’t care about you’ people.
The Catholic Church is a corrupt, malignant force in society. Having been exposed for their protection of pedophiles worldwide, the priesthood’s weird and genuinely perverse viewpoint has finally become so anachronistic it should be abolished. When Catholics first started arriving in the US in great numbers the biggest anti-Catholic argument was that the Pope and bishops would try to control our political system and government and that the Catholic church members would follow blindly. The church was careful to avoid even the appearance of such medieval manipulation until the past few years. Now the true nature of the church and the thinking of the middle ages that rules it are out in public for all to see. If any other institution had given refuge to child molesters on the scale we have seen the Catholic Church did, it would have been long ago shut down by the government as a criminal conspiracy. All modern human beings should reject the church, it’s superstitions and it’s unreasonable, backward attempts to manipulate American society and politics.
Catholics are either not listening to the message from the pulpit at all or simply receiving an ineffectual watered-down message. How else could 70 percent of them be so dubbed and vote for B.O. and his stench-filled policies? If you don’t think that the Audacity of Hype is pro-abortion, then you’ve never listened to his Planned Parenthood speech.
airball,
Do you even confess to the Holy Spirit living within you?
Beware the flying spaghetti monster!
I have no problem opposing a program that will be unsustainable. Besides, since there is separation of church and state, why is the argument that Christians should support the state’s responsibility to care for the disenfranchised. The state is forbidden from religious acts–refusing to benefit from the love of Christians–which may offend people that are intolerant of prayer and pledge of allegiance practices–seems to be a constitutional no brainer.
