With a public option, the playing field is not level or fair

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Various commentators and politicians allege that a public option would enhance greater competition with private insurers in the health care arena. However I am still waiting for someone to explain exactly how a government administered and funded plan would accomplish…

How does 41 now beat 59?

St. Louis Post-Dispatch
I have just one question about the healthcare debate and the now permanent threat of filibuster. If we live in a democracy, why is it that in the U.S. Senate, 41 votes now beats 59 votes? Can anyone seriously defend that?

Scott…

Brighten our future — with jobs

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

The Obama Administration keeps telling us that health insurance and environmental emissions are the key crises at the moment.  I must respectfully disagree with them.  I think unemployment is the key issue.  With full employment, most of our nation’s ills…

Wilson’s hypocritical stand on health care

St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Kathleen Parker’s  defense of Joe Wilson’s venal behavior was absurd.  The poor congressperson, victimized by his own psychology according to Parker, “seemed to be shaken”as he left the chamber. The real victims, of course, are the people in his district without health…

The only solution: Follow my philosophy and hope for the best

St. Louis Post-Dispatch
The problems we deal with today are so complex that it is next to impossible for the general public to have informed opinions unless an individual elects to become knowledgeable on a particular problem.  Even then the ‘facts’ for the general public are determined…

Are we sure he’s not from Mars?

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

In spite of solid evidence that President Obama was born in Hawaii in 1961, far-right Republicans are worried that he may not be an American. Perhaps they are missing a larger issue: how can we be sure that he is…

The sleeping giant is about to be awakened again

St. Louis Post-Dispatch
The Sleeping Giant is about to be awakened once again. This Giant, the failure of an ill-conceived social solution, is upon us as Washington professes that Americans want Washington to “fix” health care. Really? There is much discussion regarding “coverage,…

Congress and Chrysler forge a moral dilemma for car buyers

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

After receiving billions from taxpayers to save them from bankruptcy and prevent the loss of thousands of American jobs, Chrysler has downsized and reorganized under court supervised bankruptcy anyway. In doing so, they have closed many major manufacturing plants, severed…
