Craigslist promises to clean up adult listings
So the folks who run Craigslist, after getting heat from various state’s attorneys general, have decided to start policing adult content. And when we say “adult,” we’re mean the sexual content.
In theory, it just got much harder for people to sell sex online. The popular online classifieds site essentially agreed to discontinue its controversial “erotic services” category and replace it with an “adult services” section. Doesn’t sound a whole lot different to me. But a key change is that Craigslist will be charging ($10) for those ads and will have staffers monitoring them for illegal activity.
For those interested in keeping prostitution off the Internet, it’s certainly better than what was there before - which was not much at all.
Still, call me a cynic, but I have my doubts about this change doing much to keep the world’s oldest profession off Craigslist. At best, as suggested at ReadWriteWeb, it’ll just push it somewhere else.
Of course, we can’t help but think that this will only drive the erotic services providers to other outlets (or, even worse, back on the street). We also can’t help but wonder what euphemisms advertisers in the new “adult services” section will come up with to still sell their wares on Craigslist.

………..Politicians AGAINST prostitution?
Why then did PJ O’Rourke title his political classic “Parliament of Whores”…..
As far as I’m concerned, anything people want to do in private is ok with me. As the English say, “As long as they dont it in the streets and scare the horses.” Tho we do need to get it off the street and into hotel and casino bars where it belongs. And any politician who says so, has my vote. People trade all sorts of things for sex, including marriage. Good luck prohibiting all those. And probably eventually constitutionally protected under courts decision that homosexual activity protected by privacy right of constitution. Just a matter of time until right case with right (make that left-center) court. Will be able to regulate it but criminalize it. I speak. No one listens. You would think I’m Cassandra!
……….”As far as I’m concerned, anything people want to do in private is ok with me.”………….I agree with you.
