Get your piece of Obama newspaper history for a price

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

I sit here in the newsroom near the folks who’ve been answering the phones all day. They’ve been getting calls from people looking for a copy of Wednesday’s paper. We are, like probably every other paper in the nation, sold out. (An extra edition was put out today, but I believe those are going quickly as well.)

So where do you find a copy? The Internet, of course.

I just spent a few minutes browsing eBay. And now I know where a lot of those papers ended up. It looks like some entrepreneurs are looking to turn a profit this morning, after snapping up dozens of copies of the paper. A seller in St. Peters, for example, is trying to sell 11 copies of the Post-Dispatch for nearly $15 each, including shipping.

But maybe you’d rather have something a little closer to home - or at least President-elect Obama’s home. A seller in New Lenox is trying to sell an unopened bundle (20 newspapers) of the Chicago Tribune for a little over $2,200. But hey, the seller is offering free shipping.

Checked out Craigslist as well, but it’s pretty quiet there. As of this writing, there’s just a few people looking for papers.

We are subscribers and did not receive the paper, nor did anyone on our street. Customer service tells me they ran out early and will credit my account. I am assuming that management decided to short subscribers in favor of retail outlets. Or did our carrier steal them? How would you explain no delivery to subscribers?

Dang, that’s no good.

I was lucky enough to be in Barack’s birth state of Hawaii on Election Day, and I have the A-section from the Honolulu Advertiser to show for it. Apparently, though, it is pretty hard to preserve newsprint.
