Yahoo!, McAfee offer a little help
So many places to go, so many ways to pick up unwanted spyware, adware and viruses. If only we knew where to find — and therefore avoid — those pesky little surprises. Help, at least for some users, could be on the way.
Yahoo! says it is partnering with tech security firm McAfee to help Web surfers better understand the risks associated with clicking on some Websites. Users of Yahoo!’s search engine will be offered some guidance when results are displayed. Says Yahoo!:
“By integrating McAfee’s technology into Yahoo! Search, sites that may harm the user’s computer just by visiting them will be eliminated from appearing in Yahoo! Search results. SearchScan also alerts users to potentially risky sites with a red warning sign in search results, allowing users to proceed with caution.”
The program launched in beta today.
