How to disconnect yourself from a linked-in world
Friend of mine from New Jersey was in town this weekend to see a Rams game with me. (Really, you’d think I could have come up with something a little more entertaining.) We started talking about how much his wife enjoys Facebook and how much he dislikes it. He just can’t stand the idea of being out there - easy to find and easy to watch.
I tried to draw him back in by explaining some of the privacy settings available to Facebook users - among other things, you can simply decide that no one can see you, unless you first initiate contact with them.
He seemed a bit intrigued, but I doubt he rejoined Facebook upon his return to the Garden State.
Still, I started thinking about this again this morning when I saw this cool guide over at Ars Technica. It looks a bunch of things you can do after breaking up with someone to put a little distance between the two of you.
The thing is, there’s great advice in there for everyone - not just those ending relationships. Those who guard their privacy, there are a lot of handy tips and suggestions for adjusting the settings on popular sites like Facebook, Twitter and Flickr!.
