What’s happening to MySpace? Has its time come and gone?
I was having this discussion the other day with a friend. When was the last time you heard someone talk about their MySpace page? Just seems like the once-mighty social network has become something of an afterthought.
Of course, when you have a thought like that, you have to ask yourself if it’s been colored by your own experiences. With very few exceptions, my friends are all Facebook users (if they use social networks at all).
Well, here’s a great look at readwriteweb.com about MySpace and its current struggles.
MySpace is an embarrassment for most people on the web. Many people feel like it’s a bratty kid sister wearing too little clothing. Danah boyd famously wrote in 2007 that the MySpace/Facebook split was largely about economic class. That may not be so true anymore. Give most people another option and they are going to choose it. Social networking used to be just for teenagers, but those kids are growing up and everyone else is joining in the activity. Not on MySpace, though.
So what do you think? Can MySpace save itself? If not, I wonder if any of these social networking sites (might as well mention Facebook and Twitter) have a long-term future. Or are they destined to be replaced every few years by a shinier toy?

I think the media really blows the myspace vs facebook thing out of proportion, and if you check websites like comscore and alexa, myspace is neck and neck with facebook up to this day in daily traffic..& users actually spend more time on myspace than they do on FB…at least in US terms……some websites even still put myspace’s traffic in the US ahead of facebooks……
i think facebook is better to stay in contact for people u know but myspace is a great place to find your favorite music & entertainment purposes….i dont think these two sites are in the same category anymore, dont get me wrong, i use myspace and twitter more than facebook but myspace is goin to be more about sharing music & videos with yur friends that are still on myspace, and facebook will be for yur classmates that you dont really see anymore from college or family members that arent close to where you live…….
thats just how i see it, they can both survive simply bc they arent used for the same thing anymore
I have never been to one of those sites, and have no reason to do so in the near future. Sorry I can’t help about whatever trend may being taking place.
MySpace made me feel alienated. Facebook made be feel welcome. Twitter…well it just makes me feel like a twit.
Guess where I’m at?
I have both accounts and I have found that there are more people on Facebook than Myspace. I haven’t logged onto my Myspace page in like two months or so. I don’t see Myspace lasting too much longer
