U-verse marks one year in St. Louis
So the first year has come and gone for AT&T’s popular U-verse service. The company says the service - which combines TV, Internet and telephone (not offered yet in our area) into one fast package - to now available to more than 355,000 homes in the area. No word on how many of those homes are actually customers at this moment.
Is your home included in that mix? You can use this link to find out.
Alas, it turns out that my North County home is not. However, it really wouldn’t matter, since I’m sort of locked into DirecTV and its all-important (to me) NFL football package.
I do wonder what people think about the service. Particularly those who’ve had satellite, cable and U-verse. Why do you like one over the others?

Tim has covered a wide range of topics, including tourism, crime, aviation and gambling, since becoming a reporter in 1990. The Oklahoma native joined the Post-Dispatch in 2007 after spending nine years in Orlando. In his spare time, he's often exploring one virtual world or another. It really really does suck. Stick with satellite or Charter.
I too am with DirecTV for both the important NFL package and MLB package. I called to see if AT&T to see if I could switch my internet (my Charter internet service is not reliable or at the speed I pay for) and phone and they will only sell a package with video - which I do not need. Too bad, for their telco competitor Verizon will sell Fios Internet and Phone without video. They are losing opportunities and customers to spite themselves. No wonder they are laying folks off and not getting the subscribers they hoped for.
I swithched from charter to uverse and I carry only the TV and Internet package… I have not had an outage yet, the internet downstream is faster (upstream is comparable) & the best part is I pay $30 less per month. Charter lost me when I requested a DVR and it took !6 MONTHS! to arrive.
AT&T also still has it’s “naked” internet service (you do not need to buy a phone plan)… you have to search for it on their site, but it is still there.
I say stick with what works for you… all of the services/offerings are relatively homologous at his point anyway.
I was a Charter customer for too long because there wasn’t a choice and I had AT&T DSL service. When Charter kept the rate increases I opted out
and went to Directv while I waited for Uverse. I was lucky my DTV contract was over when Uverse became available in Florissant near the Civic center.
I opted for the U400 package (Has NFL network) and 10 meg DSL, The DSL normally gives me about 95% of the rated speed and the picture on TV is better than Charter and ties The dish. AND combining the DSL and video was
cheaper than before and No Contract. I fail to see why you need to lock people in if your selling a better product, Granted no sillly 6 month teaser rates but the service has been great. I haven’t had Charter for 3 years but I still get an Ebill from them every month billing me $0.00
so I guess they can afford to keep me listed. When DTV made a counter offer I felt like if they drop the rates when I was leaving they could have done it while I was still there. I hear talk that the service isn’t in North county but I know it spans from 270 to NewHallsferry to N.Florissant
in that big triangle. You know you can sign up and use it and I think they have a 30 free trial. With no contract it doesn’t matter really. The free whole house DVR is a nice bonus too.
