Video games for fun and dollars
Think for a second about your favorite activity. Now imagine a life where someone paid you to do that for a living. I’m sure a lot of us enjoy our work. But I’d be willing to bet the number of people out there who truly love what they do is quite small. Any professional scrapbookers out there?
That’s certainly the case for professional video game players. No one keeps stats on something like this. But reporting today’s story, it seems like a fair guess to say that there are fewer than 100 people in this country who make a living playing video games. Considering how many millions of people there are playing games, the odds of making a career out of it seems quite small.
And how long would this career last? It’s really tough to say, considering how young pro gaming is. Most of the top players are in high school and college and no one really knows how long pro gamers will be able to maintain their skills.
But if you want to see some of these top gamers in action, check them out tonight on DirecTV, channel 101. The first match starts at 9 p.m., and pits the Dallas Venom against the San Francisco OPTX. You can see the complete schedule at the Championship Gaming Series Web site.
