The Blues have trimmed their roster to 38 from 50 today:

They have assigned these players to Peoria: Drazenovic, Fast, Kana, Lemtyugov, Neilson, Paddock, Potulny, Reaves and Talbot.

These players have returned to their junior teams: Cundari, Peluso and Allen.

That leaves:

20 forwards:  Tkachuk, Kariya, McDonald, Stempniak, Hinote, McClement, King, Boyes, Stastny, Backes, Janssen, Perron, Winchester, Whitfield, Porter, Foy, Linglet, Regier, Berglund, Oshie.

13 defensemen: Brewer, Jackman, Woywitka, Polak, Wagner, McKee, Wozniewski, Weaver, Hellstrom, Pietrangelo, Junland, Jackson, Strachan.

4 goalies: Legace, Schwarz, Bishop, Mason.

*Erik Johnson (knee) is also on the roster.

Can we please get rid of Janssen? He’s just taking up a spot for one of the more talented players. I know he’s from St. louis and all, but a Tyson Nash he isn’t.

Yeah I agree. I never understood the Cam Janssen deal. Why couldn’t we have passed on him and kept Jammer or R.J. instead? Its not like Jammer makes that much more than Janssen. R.J. might have been harder to keep, but still the money paid for Janssen could have been better spent. He didn’t bring anything the Blues needed at the time and still doesn’t contribute unless you need someone’s face bashed in… and that’s what we’ve got King for.

I guess you two novices were not at the game last night. Janssen made his presence known.

I agree with the two so-called novices. Janssen is waste. There are more talented players in the system that can hit and score or at least be nuisances against the other teams top lines. We only need 1 goon and that is King. We could have had a 3rd round pick instead. We need to give the kids a chance. They’re the future.

Actually, if you’re looking to get rid of a Janssen type of player and free up a spot for one of the kids, Hinote would be a better choice. Janssen is a Hinote that hits more, stirs up more trouble and fights better. Another plus is that he doesn’t get paid as much.

Janssen gets the team and crowd into it.

Here I’ll add another of my “novice” thoughts. He takes dumb penalties. If you’re a disturber, you cause other teams to take penalties while staying out of the box yourself. Definitely something this guy needs to practice on. Oh yeah and keeping his elbows down during scrimmages at FanFest.

I felt like from day one of getting this kid, JD was trying to justify this transaction in the Salvador deal. “Cam Janssen is from St. Louis, he grew up here, blah, blah, blah.” It’s ok JD we know you wanted to free up some salary you don’t have to try to sugarcoat a turd, cause in the end it’s still gonna taste like…. well you guys get the point.

I’ll back the “novices” as well. Why on earth would you go out and get Janssen when we already have DJ King (whom was signed to a multi-year deal before last season mind you)??? He’s a waste of space who is taking up a roster spot. It’s not like you’re going to be seeing King and Janssen suited up for the same game. I agree that the money owed to Janssen could have gone towards keeping RJ. Now that’s a huge hole from the standpoint of Faceoffs, PK, and blocked shots. Remind me, can Janssen do all that!?

I’d have preferred to get a draft pick for Salvy, but I don’t have a problem with Cam, who makes near the minimum. You just cannot have more than one or two of his type of player in the lineup, since he contributes so few points.

He’s there to check & annoy opponents [and especially keep the Tootoos of the league honest -- guys who'd never, ever go with anyone DJ King's size].

He’ll also get room for whichever kid he may be on the ice with. Opponents will try to take runs at young players like Oshie and Berglund. When [not if] they do, Jansen will call them out.
