Final: Dallas 4, Blues 3

14:42 left in 1st: Blues take 1-0 on goal by Matt Foy. Foy was set up nicely in front of Marty Turco, taking a backhanded pass from Steve Regier from behind the net. (Blues 1, Dallas 0).

10:12 left in 1st: David Perron rings a shot off the post with the Blues short-handed.

6:45 left in 1st: Chris Mason makes a dazzling glove save on Dallas’ Brad Richards.

3:45 left in 1st: Mason looks sharp. The Blues are being outshot 12-4, but Mason has kept the Stars off the scoreboard.

After 1st period: Blues not looking bad after one period, especially considering Dallas dressed Brad Richards, Brenden Morrow and Mike Ribeiro.

2nd period starting . . .

17:31 left in 2nd: With Dallas on the power play, Mason makes a terrific glove save on Ribeiro, after Richards leads him with a home run pass.

13:34 left in 2nd: Just when we said Mason was looking good, he allows a bad goal. Dallas’ B.J. Crombeen takes a wrist shot from the top of the right face-off circle and slips it stick-side under Mason’s arm.

8:01 left in 2nd: Andy Wozniewski just took the Blues’ sixth penalty of the night. So far, the Blues have killed off the first five Dallas power plays. On this PK, Mason just turned away a deflection by Jere Lehtinen and a rebound attempt by Ribeiro. Penalty has expired.

2:35 left in 2nd: Blues still have registered their 10th shot of the game. They’re being outshot 22-9.

2:29 left in 2nd: Steve Regier takes the Blues’ seventh penalty of the game (interference). Blues back on the PK. They kill the penalty and are now 7-7 on the PK.

:44 left in 2nd: McKee takes a penalty. Dallas gets 15 seconds of 5 on 3 before the period is over, the Blues kill that. They’re now 8-8 on the power play with 1:16 left in McKee’s penalty when the 3rd period starts.

********

3rd period starting . . .

19:00 left in 3rd: Blues finally register their 10th shot of the game. Stars outshooting the Blues 27-10.

18:08 left in 3rd: Crombeen takes a high-sticking penalty for Stars. Roman Polak tees up from the blue-line and rips a blister past Marty Turco for a power-play goal. Yan Stastny and Trent Whitfield pick up the assists.

14:27 left in 3rd: Steve Ott scores for a 3-2 Dallas lead.

12:50 left in 3rd: 37 seconds after Ott ties it at 2-2, James Neal puts Dallas ahead 3-2 on a backhanded wraparound goal. Stastny gave him a shove behind the net, but Neal fought his way around the net and slid a shot through the legs of Mason.

10:47 left in 3rd: Brenden Morrow buries a loose puck in front of the net, giving Dallas a 4-2 lead. Mason had blocked the initial shot and didn’t have much of a chance on the rebound. The Stars’ last three goals have come in a span of 3:40.

6:44 left in 3rd: David Perron scores his fourth goal in two nights on the power playing, pulling the Blues to within 4-3. But that’s all for the Blues, who dropped to 2-2 in the preseason.

********

Not a bad effort. The lineups were pretty lopsided Saturday, so the Blues can swallow this loss. The tough part is that they led 2-1 early in the third period and let it slip away. Mason made some big saves, but also gave up a couple of shaky goals. That’s it from Big D . . . chat with you later.
